A Proposal of Unreasonableness

Recently, the Sports Club has proposed that all students should be required to join a sports team at school.  But I do not support their proposal.

My first reason is everyone has different talents and it is unreasonable to require everyone to take up sports.  Some students may be strong in film production and others may be interested in science.  They may not be strong in sport.  Therefore, forcing the students to join sports teams is a ridiculous policy because of its inappropriate distribution of resources to attempt to train somebody who is not outstanding for sports.  Just imagine what the movie industry would have been if Steven Spielberg had been forced to play basketball instead of producing legendary, well-known and spectacular blockbusters.  The movie industry would have lost an inspiringly splendid director.  Thus, instead of wasting the precious resources on this improper and thoughtless policy, we should allocate the resources for helping students develop their hobbies and discover their potentials in different aspects.

Meanwhile, the students’ academic results may be worsened due to this proposal. Since a sports team requires its members to practise for an extended period of time once or twice or even more a week, some students may not be able to handle both study and training properly.  These students will have less and less time to concentrate on their studies, and their academic results will in the end suffer.  The Sports Club’s good intention will ultimately and unwittingly become a bane to those students.  Therefore, this proposal is not to be supported.

My last concern is that not every student knows the kind of sports they have to take up, and the Sports Club will have to therefore carry out much more complex and bothersome policies or organize talks to help students understand how the sport works.  This will waste a large amount of money and resources, which the Sports Club can hardly bear.

Mandatory participation in sports teams is only an idealistic but not a possible or feasible proposal.  The resources that should have been used for training elite sportsmen will instead be allocated to students without any talent for or interest in sports.  This proposal will lower the competitive ability of our sports teams, and fail to make the wisest use of resources.

In conclusion, what the Sports Club is proposing will bring a lot of disadvantages to the future development of school and students.  Therefore, I oppose this proposal.
