Dear 3B students,

Everyone wants to be a successful person and you are no exception. However, the way to succeed is long and tough. If you truly want to succeed, you need excellent psychological qualities, dogged persistence and sustained effort. Let’s check with me whether you have got all these keys to success.

The first key to success is having excellent psychological qualities. You should be confident and have high self-esteem. Maybe your academic results were not satisfactory or even let you down and could never climb up. Remember, you are not good-for-nothing and God gives you strengths to stand out from the crowd. You have to find your strengths by joining different competitions, seeking advice from teachers and so on. If you have found your strengths, please do exert your strengths and strive for excellent performances. However, do not be arrogant once you achieve a high rank. Being arrogant will definitely change your attitude towards the next challenge. You may think that overcoming it is as easy as a piece of cake when you face the same challenge again. As a result, you will lose again.

The second key to success is having dogged persistence. As the way to success is tough and full of trials, you must have the ability of overcoming setbacks and being optimistic and positive. For instance, Nicky, a F.3 student failed in all papers of her English Exam. Undoubtedly, she was very disappointed. However, she did not let herself stay in the room of disappointment and remorse. Nicky was determined to pay much effort on improving her English standard instead. Nicky recalled “I don’t want to fail anymore and that’s what pushed me to study hard. Every day, I smile to myself in front of the mirror and remind myself that today is a brand-new day for me to work hard again.” Nicky kept on practicing her English hardly and finally she got a pass in the next English examination.

The third key to success is having sustained effort. You must work hard to gain success. Although sustaining to study hard does not mean to be successful, you cannot succeed without hard work. I should say, no one can profit without toil. You may doubt that you are not talented or even more stupid than others. Many famous people’s stories have taught us a lesson that sustaining to study hard is a crucial element to succeed. For example, Misiker Demissie, an Ethiopian marathon winner said that she had put a lot of training in preparing marathon and had tried really hard to succeed. In addition, Thomas Edison, one of the greatest inventors in the 20th century said “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” Therefore, do work hard to succeed.

Success is not reserved for the chosen few in our form. As long as you have good psychological qualities, dogged persistence and sustained effort, you can achieve success. Believe in yourself! You can be successful in tests, exams or even DSE. If you truly want to succeed, do not just sit here and stand up! Get rid of your defects and strive for excellence and success!

Yours,

Nicky Fan
