Switching souls (a story)


One night, I was awakened by the sound of distant thunder. As I opened my eyes, I saw sand everywhere, and another fennec fox ducking into the den, panting. I thought, ‘The last fennec foxes were dead.They were extinct! What am I?’. I heard the thunder again. It was actually gunshots.

After the thundering sound, it was dead silence.I peeked out of the den, confuse . Janie was probably shocked too. Fennec foxes helped the desert to balance the growth of mice. Since only two fennec foxes were left, the desert had been overflowed with mice lately. I looked around the surroundings . I saw a campsite nearby which looked familiar. I didn’t notice the gun being pointed at us.

Janie and I were drinking when suddenly…


I ducked. My vision was blurry and I could only make out a blotch of blood near me, and I fainted.

When I woke up, I was in a tent. Next to me was my working partner as we were studying the Sahara Desert. I walked out and saw two fennec foxes looking at us. I looked into their eyes and saw myself, I knew I had to protect the two fennec foxes, our soul must have switched…
