The sky was covered with dark clouds. Heavy rain was falling from the sky .Kate held her suitcase and opened the door. Before she left her home, she turned back and shouted to her mother. “I can’t put up with you anymore. I will move to Ann’s home!” Then she ran out of the house, leaving her mother standing inside, with tears in her eyes.
Kate was 18 years old .Her father died when she was only a child, so she lived with her mother in a small house. Kate thought that her mother could never understand her feeling .Whatever she did, her mother was not satisfied and always blamed her. Therefore, she could not tolerate her anymore .One day, after a quarrel with her mum, she left home without saying “Goodbye”. Then she moved to her best friend, Ann’s home.
Her mood was great after leaving her mother because she did not need to listen to the annoying voice of her mum any more. As Ann got a part-time job, Kate did housework for her. After shopping in the supermarket, Kate found a letter in the mailbox .The letter was for her. She opened it and took the things inside out. It was a necklace! “I hope you can have a nice day!” The letter inside wrote that .Kate was happy and touched .The letter had no signature, but Kate thought that it must be from Ann to cheer her up.
After Ann went home from work, she was surprised when she Kate had cooked a delicious dinner for her .Kate wore the necklace and showed her, she smiled and asked, ”Is it beautiful?” Ann said, “Yes, it’s splendid! Who gave it to you?” “What? It isn’t from you? Then who is the sender of the letter?” Kate was shocked. As she could not think of anyone else who will send a gift to her.
In the following days, Kate received a letter with tiny gifts inside every day. There were a few words which were blessing and caring words. However there was still no signature. Kate was curious, so she wanted to find out who the sender of the letters was.
In the next morning, she woke up at 6 a.m. and went to the front door of the house. She hid behind a tree besides the mailbox and waited for the sender to come .Suddenly a person walked to the mailbox slowly, holding a letter carefully .After the person dropped the letter, Kate ran to the person. A thin woman with many wrinkles on her face, wearing a cheap dress, smiled to Kate. “Mum?” Kate cried. She could not believe that the sender of the letters was her mother. Tears ran across her face. She discovered that her mum had never forgotten her. Her mum really loved her.
Her mum said, “I…I know you won't forget me, b…but I really miss you…” Kate hugged her mother and said, “Can I return home?” “Yes, of course! I have waited for these words for a long time!” her mum said with tears. Although Kate couldn't see her face, she was sure her mum was overwhelmed with joy.
