Why do people fall prey to con artists?

Despite the fact that people are always warned to stay alert to street scams, many of them still fall prey to con artists.  This may be due to these reasons: ignorance and sympathy.
Greed is the main reason for people being preyed on.  The imposters truly know about this and they usually feign that they have something valuable which people can earn lots of money reselling.  When grasping people hear that they can make money, they would lose their mind and are willing to buy those so-called costly goods.
Some con artists perform the scam by means of ‘spiritual blessing’.  They would bless our whole family if we give them money or valuable properties.  Usually when we are asked to pay for the ‘spiritual blessing’, we know it must be a trick.  However, there are always people who believe in such deceits.  Perhaps they love their family very much and they want blessings but it is so naive to give strangers money.
People with too much commiseration can also be tricked easily.  When scammers pretend to be in need, those benevolent people would surely give them help.  They may give them money, or ‘lend’ them their cell phone.  The victims are too kind to think twice before helping people.
Actually most of the tricks are not that hard to see through.  However, they are always pointing at people’s weaknesses and therefore people are cheated.  Grabby people love money, people with innocence are unmindful of scams, while charitable people love helping others too much.
