Why do people fall prey to con artists?

We often think of con artists preying on the elderly because they can be mentally disoriented and susceptible to the attention and concern of a stranger.  However, it can happen to anyone.
Why do people fall prey to con artists?  The most common reasons are genuine heartedness and greed.
Good-hearted people are as innocent as children who believe what parents say.  They believe whatever conmen say.  Those tricksters may ask them to lend them their phones by saying that it is rather urgent to contact others.  When the phone comes into their hands, they pretend that the phone cannot receive signals and want to go to another place.  Finally, they run away and disappear.  How can you tell a genuinely loving person to be suspicious of everyone?  That’s why most of them have low vigilance against con artists.
Besides, people are greedy and want to be rich.  They always try to make some investments which are promoted through someone they do not even know.  Victims withdraw all their savings from the bank to give it to complete strangers.  They think that the investment they make will make them a quick profit.  However, they end up being full of regret and with an unforgettable memory of getting into a hoax.
We cannot buy a security system to protect ourselves from these people.  The only system we have is our good judgement.  Keep our properties properly and do not easily believe in strangers.
Don’t let con artists take advantage of a loophole.
