Good morning everyone! I am the captain of the volleyball team, Chris Foo. I am glad and surprised I got the Best Athlete award. However, it is not my own success. It’s because there were many people who helped me a lot. Therefore, in the following, I would like to thank three people who have contributed the most to my winning this award.

Do you know what the most important thing in a volleyball team is? Team spirit. When I first joined the volleyball team, I did not know it and I just wanted to improve my skills. Mr. Smith, the coach of the volleyball team, is the one who taught me that. I would like to thank him not only because he taught me how to play volleyball well, but also because he taught me how to cooperate with teammates, how to become a good leader, how to face losses and difficulties. Without his teaching, I may just keep practicing my volleyball skills in the court but not standing here. Thank you, Mr. Smith!

As a teenager, peer support is extremely important. I think most of you agree. And I am happy that I have a best friend. He is Peter. He is not a member of the volleyball team and he knows nothing about volleyball. But he gives me the biggest support. When I feel stressed, he listens and chats with me about my problems. When I am too tired that I sleep in lessons, he gives me his own notes and teaches me again patiently. When I win a competition, he celebrates happily with me and encourages me to keep going. He is really the best friend in the world!

Finally, I would like to thank my mother. What will be the best gift when you feel tired? To me, it’s my mother’s caring soup. Every time when I finish practicing volleyball and go back home, I will see a big meal and a bowl of soup on the table. Whenever I see it, my heart goes warm and all my tiredness seems to have gone. My mother is a strong woman. She works many hours every day but she never says she feels tired in front of me. She spends all her spare time taking care of my needs. Without her care, I may not have the strength to continue my practice and my studies.

There are more people I would like to thank. I promise every one of you that I will continue trying my best playing volleyball and being a good student and good leader. I love volleyball! Thank you!
