I feel highly honoured to be presented the Best Athlete Award at this ceremony. I would like to thank three people our volleyball coach Mr Smith, my good friend Peter and my caring mother.

Mr Smith plays an indispensable role in my winning the award. As the coach of the volleyball team, Mr Smith is responsible for teaching team members various skills and techniques. Apart from this, I receive ‘bonuses’ from him ‘remedial classes’.  He understands a captain’s pressure and the importance of a captain to a team, so he always gives me lessons during and after training. I have learnt how to be an effective co-ordinator, how to settle disputes, how to boost the team’s morale, how to console team members… In other words, I realise how to be a well-equipped volleyball player and captain under the devotion of Mr Smith. Without him, I bet I can’t be awarded the Best Athlete.

Another person who has made great contribution to my success is my dear fellow, Peter. He is the one who teaches me the word ‘camaraderie’. He is the one who lets me experience the warmth of friendship. Whenever I am despondent and frustrated because of hardship, he is able to raise my spirits. Without his encouraging words, I would have given up my ‘career’, and won’t be here to receive the award. I will always remember how he has supported me, and how he has listened to my grievances patiently!

The last person I would like to thank is really caring—my mother. She is always a spectator of the matches I participate in! This is a great encouragement to me as I feel like I have a supporter and she is a motive for me to play hard! Besides, she always racks her brain to let me have a suitable and healthy diet on the day before the competition so that I can have long-lasting stamina to play well. She is definitely worthy of our praise!

The three people are all essential to me, and I promise I won’t fail to live up to their expectations! Thank you!
