Under what conditions does true friendship grow?

In this often phony and topsy-turvy world, it seems to be difficult for a true friendship to grow. In fact, a true friendship only requires a few things, selflessness, support and consideration.

True friendship grows when you do not take account of what you get.  In the story Holes, Stanley, the main character, goes to see the Warden because he is accused of stealing sunflower seeds.  While Stanley is gone, another camper Zero helps him to dig his hole.  When Zero is digging Stanley’s hole, he can’t have known Stanley would teach him how to read and write afterwards.  But their friendship begins to blossom.  When Stanley starts teaching Zero how to read and write, their friendship grows deeper and deeper.

True friendship also grows when the two start helping and supporting each other.  In the story, when Stanley and Zero are heading towards a hill called Big Thumb, Zero feels so tired and dizzy that he isn’t able to carry on.  Stanley immediately carries Zero and walks for a long period of time.  In fact, Zero isn’t the only person who feels tired.  I believe Stanley is tired as well, as he is rather obese.  He can actually choose to leave Zero alone and go on himself.  But when he has made this decision, it obviously shows that Stanley sees Zero as his really important friend.  In doing so, a true friendship grows.

Meanwhile, true friendship grows when the two are thinking for and being concerned about each other and overcoming difficulties together.  On the way to Big Thumb, Stanley and Zero once keep asking each other if anyone of them is thirsty and tired.  “Are you thirsty?”  “Are you feeling tired?”  Sometimes, these simple words and questions could work like magic, just like a bit of sunshine on a cloudy day.  They can brighten the day and warm someone’s heart.  Though their way to Big Thumb is difficult and tough, their concern and consideration give them the drive to go on.  Eventually, they reach Big Thumb, and their friendship is cemented.

A true friendship contains understanding and mutual trust, where deception and lies are not allowed.  Life has wonders for you to feel and enjoy.  A true friendship is one of them.  A life without a true friendship is like Facebook with no friends, Youtube with no videos and Google with no results.  Get yourself in a true friendship and discover what it’s like.
