Six Skills Every Carmel Student Should Know

Hong Kong is a modern city. Due to rapid development of technology, people’s lives are greatly changed. However, teenagers get used to their convenient lives and the majority of them don’t possess basic skills. For example, some students in Carmel don’t know how to tie a necktie. Therefore, I think there are six skills that every Carmel student should know.

We Carmel students should know how to tie a necktie, as I have mentioned before. Learning to dress properly is essential because it determines whether we make a good impression on people outside the school or not. Besides, we are not children anymore and we should know how to look after ourselves.  Otherwise, we will be asking our parents or colleagues to tie neckties for us when we grow up.

Camel students should also know how to make friends with fellow schoolmates. It is important because they add a lot of fun to our schoolife. We can chat with them and share our happiness or worries with them. For instance, when we are stuck in a dilemma, we can ask them for advice. We and our friends can even help improve one another’s academic results. However, if a friend keeps asking you for help, you’re advised to ask them to consult a teacher. Remember to make friends as they can be our life-long besties!

Thirdly, Carmel students should know how to manage money wisely. This skill is also of great importance in adulthood. We should set aside transport expenses and lunch money. The money left will be our savings. We can use them for entertainment. Don’t skip lunches when you want to buy an album of your favourite singer! Also, try not to rely on your parents to give you money to spend. Just go and start saving money.

In addition, Carmel students should know how to write a timetable, especially on the weekends and before the exams. We shouldn’t waste too much time surfing the Net, being couch potatoes, or worse – doing nothing. A good timetable helps us to study efficiently but not endlessly. We may even have time for play. But of course, the earlier we study, the better. Work hard, play hard!

Furthermore, Carmel students should know how to play at least one musical instrument. We can make more friends by teaching each other to play the instrument and even form a musical band. Besides, it can prepare us for a future career. Who knows, some of us may become a pianist, violinist, drummer or singer. Anyway, playing a musical instrument is soothing when we are exhausted or bored.

Lastly, every Carmel student should know how to seek help from God. As we are adolescents, our self-esteem will plummet because of peer pressure, poor results and many other things. We will also be in some some tough situations. It will not be easy, but we can seek help and advice from God by reading the Bible and praying. He will give us strength to take on those challenges. God is definitely the best adviser and we can stay optimistic and confident every day.

In conclusion, I hope Carmel students can have all these six skills and don’t rely on technology too much. Which of these things do you know?
