A child’s monologue

Hey! Hi! I guess you are wondering why you can hear me.

    Because I have special power.

I’m a really special kid, although I’m unwanted in my family. No one is being nice to me, even my servants in the house are mean to me. They think I’m a weirdo, because I always sit, and stare, just stare, and never make a sound. I think I’m not ordinary, different from other ten year olds.

One day, my sister comes home with her boyfriend. They must have been to the movies, because my sister throws me her leftover popcorn, an empty paper bag with only seven pieces of popcorn in it, being mean to me as always. So I sit on the sofa and eat my popcorn. I eat the first one, second one, third one, and the fourth one… I heard my sister giggling and talking sweet with her boyfriend, sending me chills. But I still want to see what they are up to. So I take my popcorn, sit on the corridor and stare at them. I grab a piece of popcorn and bite it. Then the boy’s phone starts to ring, interesting… I quickly chew on the next piece of popcorn, then they start to fight and scream. “Who the heck is Jane? Is that the bony girl whom you had lunch with yesterday? How could you cheat on me?” Now it’s getting more interesting… I keep staring and munching on the last piece of popcorn, the seventh piece, what a lovely number. I munch and munch and when I swallow it, my sister throws her boyfriend out of the window. And there he goes, all the way down to the bushes.

I stand up and peep through the curtains in the living room. The poor boy’s blood is all over the place. Oh! And here comes the big hungry wolf. It’s tearing the boy’s flesh, lapping his blood, eating like a greedy fool. Now the boy’s body is just like the unwanted spaghetti my sister threw off the table last night. Hmm… I’m a little hungry now.

Then, my parents come home. I sit on the sofa and keep quiet like a good girl should, to please my mama. I take the cushion next to me and hold it close. Something hard inside, wonder what it is… So I unzip the cushion case.

An arm! A real human arm is inside the cushion. Oh! Haven’t I mentioned that my papa’s right arm was chopped off.  Please pardon my carelessness. Mama must have hidden the arm here to scare me. My curiosity urge me to open papa’s arm, I find a piece of gum. So I unwrapped it and start chewing it. I continue to sit and stare, sit and stare… Then mama comes out of the kitchen, holding a sharp, sharp knife. I’m so terrified, I freeze and keep staring. I blow a bubble with my gum and it grows bigger and bigger, like a swelling balloon. It soon blocks my vision, what’s going on? What will mama do with the knife? Papa? Papa!

‘Pop!” the balloon explodes. Mama’s gone, but papa is stabbed in the heart by mama’s knife. His blood is gushing out, like Goldie’s bag of water. Goldie is my goldfish, I broke its bag on the way home by mistake but I didn’t notice. When I was home, Goldie was dead. Now my papa’s dead, like Goldie, eyes wide open. I stand up and walk to papa’s body and close his eyes. I put my fingers in his pool of blood. I lick my fingers, and they taste savory, taste like papa…

So now, are you scared? Are you petrified? But I’m sad to tell you that these are just my imaginations.

I live in an orphanage, in a room at the end of a dark and spooky corridor. All of my roommates are special like me. Some like to tell stories like I do, stand and speak in front of the mirror, draw some symbols or graphics on the wall… Other kids in the orphanage tease us and laugh at us. We all wish to blow them away like feathers.

My mama is the one who send me here, but papa doesn’t want to. He said I might be worth a few bucks. “Go away, you evil child!” that’s my mama’s last few words for me, and she sent me here.

Hey! If you’re still listening, I want you to know. We are not evil children. We are just special, some very special kids. If you ever call us weird again, I’ll grab my seven pieces of popcorns, sit at the corner of your house. And watch… You… Die…
