Walking in the Rain

In an early Sunday morning, I went out to the park nearby to meditate for a little while by myself. There was a little rain but I chose not to bring my umbrella because it was not heavy at all. It was only a light little shower in the lovely spring. The nature was dozing in the dim glow of sunlight beneath the thin pieces of clouds. The fine drops of rain spattered on the ground while some of them dabbed my skin playfully. It felt light to the touch. They gleamed and scattered on the path and made it a bit slippery, so I took each step slowly and carefully. I sniffed greedily for the fresh air. I listened to the beautiful dawn chorus from the birds. It was adoringly sweet! Dramatically, I caught a glimpse of the dark brown feathers from a tiny sparrow flicked across from my face. There were no people around but I didn’t feel lonely because I relished and felt comfortable in this special scene.

While looking closely to the water drops, I extraordinarily felt pity for them. Dropping high down from the mysterious sky, they hit on the ground fiercely. Would they feel painful? They whispered back into my ears and said that I was quite humorous. They told me it was exhilarating. They chuckled and wetted me. I was drenched by the sudden pour of water. Although my clothes and my hair were not soaked with water, I felt a bit cold because the cool but fresh wind was blowing behind me. I shivered a little. The breeze was so kind that it dried my clothes and it gently pushed me forward. It made the leaves on the ground whirled and spinned in a swirl. It would round my body and I tasted the smell of flowers in it. The shower slowly turned to a drizzle.

The plants bathed themselves in perfume. The scent of the trees and the pleasant smell from the flowers and grass filled the entire atmosphere. They gripped hold of the breeze tightly so they were all shaking their heads like they were listening to some magical melodies in a relaxing way. I could only hear a little sound ‘saaa….sa…….’ as a sprinkle of water was being sprayed on the plants. Water held by the leaves was dripping down to the ground soundlessly. The surrounding place was peacefully quiet. The quietness emphasized the sound ‘tap…tap…’ of my footsteps.

In the silence, I closed my eyes. Using my imagination, I tried to picture the colours of the droplets. Could they by blue? Or red? Or violet? No, brown was more suitable……

I let myself open my eyes and I started to admire the beauty of the raindrops. Transparent droplets were the most beautiful. They were just like clear and bright shimmering crystals. They glinted all their way down to the ground. When the crumbly crystals smashed against the flat ground, they broke right away but they were still glittering like dazzling and sparkling stars up in the sky.

I raised my hands because I wanted to collect them all. Unfortunately, I failed. After all, it was only a soft drizzle and the droplets were like tears of happiness from the blue sky. They were merciful but difficult to catch.

The drizzle continued and people started to appear. I felt great and was satisfied. I walked back in a steady and stable pace with a grateful heart. Nonetheless, I turned and sneaked one more little peak before closing the door.

Right in the middle of the sky, a colourful and tangible rainbow appeared. It was hung at the corners of the clouds and formed a perfect curve. Warmly it smiled at me!
