Should people be allowed to perform in the streets?

Street performances are a common sight in Hong Kong.  The performers usually perform for rewards, but some do not.  I think they are qualified to perform in Hong Kong streets.

Firstly, street performers provide free entertainment to the general public.  They can make people more cheerful and energetic, especially in deadly dull mornings.  Many people love to enjoy wonderful music when they are still sleepy in the morning.

It is also a chance for people to show their abilities, such as acting and playing musical instruments.  Although sometimes they cannot gain money, it is a sense of satisfaction to be appreciated by the general public.  I have seen some fantastic trumpet players, and if they work in music centres they can earn a lot.  But instead of teaching, they seem to like playing in the streets more.

Thirdly, it is a way to preserve the civilization of a country.  In Hong Kong, there are many performers playing traditional Chinese songs.  They can let more people (especially foreigners) know the traditional culture of China.

Some people may think that the noise will be very annoying and it will affect their quality of sleep.  However, this problem can be solved.  The government could allocate some special performing places which are far away from residential areas.

To conclude, street performers can cheer people up, show abilities and preserve the national tradition.  I really hope that Hong Kong can become an energetic city and I can enjoy watching free performances in the streets.  Then our city can really become a city of life!
