Have you ever played any video games? I think you probably have and most teenagers enjoy playing video games. However, video games are harming teenagers like you and me.

First, teenagers are easily affected. Teenagers are always interested in trendy and amusing things they have never seen before, so they always try those new things. Once they find that interesting, they would like to go ahead but they usually cannot control themselves from the temptations and they will be addicted easily. You think those good teenagers won’t have this problem? Of course not! Those addicts always attract their friends and classmates to share their happiness by doing the same thing, and in this situation, video games would be the trend most of the time because many of them are free, multiplayer- designed and fun. Nearly all of the teenagers would play the mash game to have more topics to talk on during chats and meet more new friends. Obviously, the vicious cycle will continuously go non- stop and this harms the teenagers a lot.

Furthermore, addiction to video games may lead to a sharp drop of academic result. According to my first point, it clearly shows that addictions happen always and teenagers would spend much time on gaming. As an example, one of my primary schoolmates who was a straight A student started his gaming journey because of the influence of his friends. He was soon addicted to gaming and he spent over sixty percent of his time on gaming! His first exam results were alright and he could not realize the matter. When it came to the final exam, visibly his grades dropped in all subjects and his rank too. He was no longer a model student, even though he finally realised the problem. It is too late. It shows that playing video game would affect us a lot.

Last but not least, playing video games may destroy family relationships. In such a hectic society like Hong Kong, it is extremely rare to have quality family time because parents always need to spend much time on work and make ends meet for their family. Worse still, video games like Overwatch which can take an hour for one single game are time- consuming and it may use up the precious family time! Over time, the relationship between family members would become worse and and even quarrels arise. We really need to pay a high price for video games and it’s not worth it.

Overall, playing video games causes a number of bad effects in terms of academic aspect, family relationship and so on. Therefore, we should not play video games too much. It is not straightly a ‘No’ to video games but the self- control and balance of time are a must. Wish you all wise enough to make a choice.
