This book is about the life of the most famous idiot, Forrest Gump. He was born an idiot. His schoolmates made fun of him and bullied him. Only one girl, Jenny Curran, didn’t run away from him.  She became friends with Forrest instead. He had liked her since then. He was chosen to join the football team because he was so tall and strong and he could run really fast.

He had to go to the army to fight in Vietnam when he was at university. He met his roommate, Bubba there. They planned they would get a shrimp boat, catch shrimps and make lot of money after the war, Unfortunately, Bubba died during the war. Forrest was so sad that he wanted to die. He got a medal presented by the present after he got back to Washington.

Then, he met Jenny in Boston and they became couples. However, he was sent to space with an ape and a woman. He became friends with the ape after they got back to the Earth. He met Jenny again but she broke up with him because she thought that Forrest was cheating during a wrestling game. He started chess business with the companies of the ape after that.

When he finally went home in Mobile, he started the shrimp business like what Bubba had planned. Soon, he made tons of money. Once again, he met Jenny in Savannah but with her son. Jenny told him it was actually his son. He was so surprised.

At least, he sent the money he earned from shrimp business to those people he loved, his mom, Bubba’s dad, Jenny and her son. He left Jenny and his son for good in the end.

Before I read the book, I always thought Forrest was a stupid and dumb idiot since that was what people told me. However, I completely changed my opinions about Forrest. He wasn’t stupid as people said. He was brave. He tried to save Bubba during the Vietnam War while the bullets were flying all around him. He played a song on harmonica beside Bubba as it was his last wish. It is the most touching part in the book. He was positive. He knew he was different from the others. However he was not ashamed about he was an idiot. He always said,’ I am an idiot, but I am not stupid. I always try to do the right things.’ I love Forrest because of that.

This book is written in first-person view. I like books which are written in first-person view because I can know the feelings of the characters and you will not know what might happen next in the book. The author used some easy words to tell us the story. It’s both funny and touching.

Also, I love the ending. The author ended with Forrest admitting he was an idiot, but most of the time he just tried to do the right thing. That was what Forrest always said.

His life was full of surprises. Once he was at the football team, then he had to go to the army; once he was dating, Jenny, he was sent to the space. I learnt that our lives always surprise us and we will never know what may happen next. That’s the spirit of lives! Life is both bitter and sweet too, but we get to be strong and cope with it. Forrest lost Jenny a couple times but he was still that positive guy. Lives will be boring if everything happens the way you wish. Also, you don’t have to be ashamed of your flaws. Forrest was an idiot but he experienced a lot more than normal people did. He had learnt a lot, made so much money and had a meaningful life! I believe we can have that as well!
