I was going to do an exciting thing!
I paced up and down the street in which few people walked through for a long time, and, finally, I found my big game … a fat lady was shopping with her friend. They walked towards my position. Although they did nott look wealthy, I did not change my target─ stealing money from them!
When they were still talking intently, I suddenly bumped into them and knocked their bags onto the floor. They first gazed at me indignantly. I pretended to be regretful and said, ‘I’m really sorry.’ Then they forgave me and bent down to pick their bags up. Their things, such as their mirror, moisturizing cream, tissue and keys, were all on the floor. I grasped the chance and ‘helped’ them, and I hid a wallet into my bag successfully. After picking up their things, they walked away and entered a record shop.
After a while, the fat lady found a CD which she wanted to buy. They took the CD to the counter to pay for it. When she reached into her bag for her wallet, she found that it was gone. As what I expected, they were surprised. ‘My…my wallet was missing!’ the fat lady stammered. But they were clever. They remembered that I had bumped into them and stolen her wallet. ‘He was a pickpocket!’ they exclaimed.
I went in front of them expressly. Both of them pointed at me and shouted, ‘You’re the thief!’ Well, it was not too late for them to discover this.
They dashed to me and questioned me if I had stolen her wallet. Since I was honest, I admitted my crime, and they despised me instantly. The fat lady took out her mobile phone and started to press the buttons. They wanted to call the police!
Of course, I stopped her. ‘No…please don’t call the police…please…’ I begged, with tears falling down my face. It seemed that they became soft-hearted then. I continued to beg for their forgiveness. I was fighting a psychology war with them…
Lastly, I won the war. ‘All right! Just give back my wallet to me and you may go…’ the fat lady said. I was glad as it was the result that I was looking for!
A great cheer went up from several people who had also hidden themselves behind other shelves. They came to us with some large machines. ‘What’s going on?’ the fat lady asked. Certainly, I knew what was going on because all of this was in my great plan! So it was the time to tell them the truth.
I explained what I did to the two ladies. After that, they looked confused. But then we laughed together.
Actually, I was a TV program producer. I designed a new TV program which aimed at testing the tolerance of Hong Kong citizens. Hence, I pretended to be a pickpocket and tested the tolerance of the fat lady and her friend. What we had said had been shot as part of the program!
It was difficult for the two ladies to accept this fact, but anyway, everything ended with laughter!
