Walter (Haley Joel Osment), a poor boy is sent to his great uncles, Garth (Robert Durall) and Hub (Michael Caine), because his mother, Mae (Kyra Sedwick), wants him to find the rumored fortune which belongs to his two uncles. However, Walter is not willing to do so. Uncles Hub and Garth live in the countryside alone. With the time passing, oldness makes them both feel that they are useless. After Walter has lived with Hub and Garth for a period of time, they begin to get closer and be friendly with each other. Moreover funny things happen to them. Also, the uncles teach Walter what a man should believe in through the story of uncle Hub. One day, they purchase an old lion for hunting. But Walter decides to pet Jasmine, the old female lion. Moreover, Walter wants to change the negative thoughts of his two uncles.
Uncles Hub and Garth are interesting and brave. Their tale is just like a cartoon and is funny. Haley Osment, acting as Walter, performs an excellent job in the film.
The ending is quite unbelievable but meaningful. Hub and Garth are happy doing things they want. The “real lions”, Hub and Garth, both die in honor. It is funny that we can always listen to the rural music in the film.
The film is a parable and it is enjoyable for all audience, especially the adults. It teaches us how to live a meaningful life. It also records the growth of Walter. Furthermore, it states the aging problem of people. Is the film interesting? Go to the cinema and find it out yourselves.
