“Secondhand Lions” is an adventure film. It is directed by Tim McCanlies. The film is set in a Texan farm in 1960s. Haley Joel Osment acts the role of Walter, who is sent to live with his uncles, Hub and Garth, who are acted by Robert Duvall and Michael Caine respectively.
Walter’s uncles were rich as people said. That’s why Walter’s mother sent him to his uncles’ house. Walter’s mother and his uncles became a very family and Walter decided to stay with his uncles. In the end, Walter’s uncles died because of an aeroplane accident.
Firstly, there are two characters who are amazing in this film. They are Walter’s uncles, Uncle Garth and Uncle Hub. You may learn that we can still do a lot of things and learn new things if we are still alive and have that ability. Uncle Garth always knows what uncle Hub is thinking. He knows uncle Hub very well. Uncle Hub is a brave old man. He likes adventure and his heart is full of loyalty and virtue. He seems to be old on the outside but you will find that he is still young inside. They are like partners forever. Uncle Hub saved Uncle Garth’s life for many times. In this movie, both of the actors is so realistic and hilarious.
Secondly, the movie title “Secondhand Lions” is also interesting. When you first look at it, you would probably think that the movie is bout lions. However, lions symbolize Walter’s uncles in this movie. Although Uncle Hub and Uncle Garth are old, they are still as strong as lions. Once after Uncle Hub was sent to the hospital and on his way home, Uncle Hub fought with a gang of young people and beat them by himself.
Thirdly, let’s talk about the messages of this movie. This film gets two important messages        family relationships and growing old. When Walter first came to his uncles’ house and lived with them, they acted like strangers to each other. There was a gap between them. Walter couldn’t believe that there were not any telephones and televisions. All they could do were only fishing, hunting and gardening. As time goes on, Walter and his uncles became a big happy family. Besides, “growing old isn’t a problem” is also important message in this movie. Notwithstanding both of Walter’s uncles are getting old, they are still learning new things such as flying a plane. This is all because Uncle Hub is afraid of being useless.
Anyway, this movie is worth seeing since you can learn a lesson from it. This movie is quite encouraging because you will find that it is meaningful for you to live in the world. You still have the chance to make contributions to the society and also the world.
