A day as an amusement park helper

I have not visited Disneyland for 5 years.  Last time, I went to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and had so much fun.  I have always dreamed of re-visiting Disneyland.  However, the tickets cost a pretty penny, so when I was offered a job by Disneyland as a helper for one day, my spirits were lifted.  I could enter Disneyland for free and save more than four hundred dollars!  Isn’t it amazing?

Prancing in a sprightly manner, I supposed I was the first one who arrived.  I waited outside the gate at 5 a.m.  My mind was bordering on insanity as the park opened at 10.

A few hours later, I marched into the manager’s office.  He assigned me a task, being a snack cart salesman in the Fantasyland.  I was scornful of his offer, but did it as instructed reluctantly.  I had higher expectations originally, like becoming a chef or tour guide.

I pushed the cart next to the Mad Hatter Tea Cups in an adagio tempo.  I sat down on my stool and waited for my first customer hopelessly.

A middle-aged man with a face full of pimples approached and yelled, “How much is a bottle of coke?”

“25 dollars, Sir.”

“Are you nuts? I can buy it in PARKnSHOP for 5 dollars!”

“I’m sorry, Sir.  But this is Disneyland, not PARKnSHOP.  Would you like to place your order, Sir?”

He left in a rage.  It was mean of him to shift the blame to me.

The following customers just did the same.  I had doubts whether I could manage to sell a single snack or drink.

Suddenly, a brilliant idea struck my mind.  I gaily dashed to the entrance of Space Mountain and wrote a gigantic “Space food for astronauts!” on my cart.  I also wrote : “Wanne be Buzz Lightyear ?and Must Try!”.

Soon crowds of curious children gathered around.  Being attracted by the advertising gimmicks, more and more children were buying food and drinks from my cart.  Some children were even pretending to be the heroic space ranger and shrieking with loud laughter when consuming the “Space food”.  “To infinity… and beyond!” some of them yelled.  I was so glad that the tricks worked and that I had brought fun for the children.

Before Disneyland closed, the manager told me that I was among one of the top salesmen at Disneyland for the day.  I was overjoyed that my first day as a snack cart salesman was a success and that I had brought a small profit for Disneyland.  A quick mind was the magic!
