Dear Sir/ Madam,

Re: Complaint about the poor service of the fitness centre

I am writing to complain about the poor service of your fitness centre in particular the snack bar, the aerobics class, and the unacceptable response of the assistant manager.

I would like to start by saying how disappointed I was with the aerobics class. The instructor of the class was neither fit nor strong enough. She was exhausted when she was demonstrating the dance steps and conducting the class. I think that she could not show us a good enough model for being fit. She also lacked confidence and skills to teach us. The facilities of the room in which we did aerobics were old and poor too. Not only the CD player but also the mirror was broken. The defect mirror was very dangerous for anyone walking close to it. Moreover, the room was too crowded. There was not enough space for the students to move around. Also the room was too messy as the gym equipment was put on the floor randomly. It would impose danger on people as they might trip over them carelessly.

My next complaint concerns the poor condition of the snack bar. The snack bar was very dirty and messy. The dirty used dishes were stacked up on the counter. The food leftovers made the counter even more dirty and smelly. It was unacceptable definitely. The broken tables and chairs were discarded at the serving area. I think it is unreasonable of you to expect customers to use these poor facilities. Moreover, the food of the snack bar was very unhealthy and fattening. There was too much fat and sugar in the food and drinks in the menu. It is impossible to get a healthy snack there. I think that it is terrible to find such a snack bar in a fitness centre.

The last complaint but also the one that concerns me most is the rude response of your assistant manager regarding my complaint about the snack bar. When I gave my comments on the unhealthy snacks, I was told that the snacks were actually healthy. He claimed that there were vegetables and dairy products in burgers, and fruits in cakes and drinks. His response was simply ridiculous! Moreover, when I complained about the dirty counter and dishes, he told me that I should go and exercise instead of sitting in the snack bar to find faults of it. I was totally outraged. His reply was literally unacceptable. For my complaint about the bad advice given by the assistant on healthy snacks, the assistant manager argued that because of the sugar and fat in the snacks, they could give us energy and that was why the assistant was actually giving ‘good’ advice. At the end of the voicemail message, he told me that he would take no action to address my complaints. It is appalling that he even asked me to join another fitness centre if I was unhappy. His manner and response are very rude and irresponsible.

I expect to receive a full explanation regarding this matter. I hope that you would take this complaint seriously. I request a written apology from the assistant manager and a partial refund of my membership fee as I have lost all my confidence in joining any courses of your centre again. If I do not hear from you within ten days, I shall take this matter to the Consumer Council.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Wong
