“What? No!” I yelled, “No! I don’t mean it! I am sorry!”

There I was, I upset my friend Alice. Suddenly, I was being punched in the tummy.

“Ouch!” I said as I woke from my dream. “ What a nightmare,” I said as I rubbed my eyes sleepily. It must be my cat who stepped on me but it was nowhere to be seen. Then, the smell of my mum’s delicious home-made breakfast flowed into my room. I slowly plodded out of my room, expecting my mum to greet me with a “good morning!” But she wasn’t’ there, not in the kitchen, not in her room. The toilet was empty too. So, I decided to lie back on my bed. Then, the quilt began folding itself!

“Mamamia!” I yelled. “A gh…gh…ghost!!!” Just then, my mum popped her tiny head out behind the quilt.

“Hi, honey! Good morning!” She was so tiny! I put a ruler beside her and measured her height. She was only 20cm tall! What happened? My mother told me that she was surprised by something like a small blue man-like creature. Then, she invited them in. A smurf! Lots of smurfs! Those little magical creatures do exist! They introduced themselves one by one, Clumsy, Jokey, Smurfette and Greedy.

The smurfs called Papa Smurf to come and solve the problems. Clumsy also explained to me what happened. Jokey handed Clumsy a gift box which contained some shrinking dust. But Clumsy tripped and spilled it over on my mum’s breakfast which she ate accidentally and shrank. Papa Smurf then came in, riding a pigeon. He assured me that Mum would change back into normal size in no time, like, evening. Papa Smurf also punished the smurfs by asking them to help me take care of my mum and be responsible for what they had done. Then, Papa Smurf went to mix a potion that would help my mum grow back to normal size.

Well, taking care of my mum wasn’t an easy task and with those smurfs, even harder. Also, I had to cancel all my activities. My perfect Sunday had gone. In case the smurfs made serious mistakes, I put them together with my mum on my shoulders. First, I did all the chores which was more tiring than I thought they would be. I was quite glad my house wasn’t a palace. Then, Greedy and Smurfette helped me with cooking while Clumsy and Jokey played with my mum in my old Barbie house and watched television. Greedy was a great cook and I learnt many recipes of pies and cakes. As lunch was ready, I found that the mini utensils were far too big for the smurfs and Mum to use. So I let them eat with their hands. Then, my mum bathed in the Barbie house’s bathtub which I filled with warm water behind the cardboards which I placed to hide her and give her some privacy. As my mum’s regular clothes were far too big for her, she tried on some Barbie clothes. Amazingly, they fit! I was so glad my mum was slim. Then, I made mini-sized poker cards to play with the smurfs. But Jokey loved to play tricks on us, like misleading the smurfs about how to play and making some cards disappear. But it was fun. Also I asked then how they came to the US. The smurfs said that they were following an old leprechaun’s underground tunnel to go to China to buy something red for Papa Smurf as it was his birthday. “As you see, Papa likes red as well as blue. His shoes, trousers and hat are all red,” explained Smurfette.

“It was all my fault,” said Clumsy, “if it wasn’t I who had chosen the wrong path, we would not have ended up here and caused so many troubles.”

“It’s not your fault,” we chorused. When Mum finished bathing, we had a little chat and we decided to help them make some little red handicrafts for Papa Smurf — a little red card, a red flower necklace, a red walking stick and a new red coat. I was so glad that we had so many red materials to help the smurfs make gifts for Papa Smurf.

When we were all playing snakes and ladders, we heard a slight tap on the window. Papa Smurf was back with a big sizzling, bubbling cauldron. Papa Smurf told Mum to drink it all up. Then, slowly and gradually, Mum changed back into normal size! But the smurfs couldn’t go back to Smurf Village. There was only one way — standing under the Liberty Statue on a blue moon night, which was that night! Mum quickly drove us to the Liberty Statue. Then, the smurfs jumped carefully off our hands and took a photo with us. Then, moonlight shone on the smurfs and the next second, they vanished! They were all gone!

This was a really amazing and unforgettable experience. The smurfs were so cute and adorable. But it was also a tiring day. I got to take care of my mum! I was so glad I am not a mum yet. And after all, I hope we didn’t cause any troubles to the smurfs. At last, let’s wish Papa Smurf a happy birthday.
