CarmelSecondary School’s 48th Annual Sports Days were held successfully and safely at Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground on 4th and 5th October.  Students, teachers, scouts and parents of CarmelSecondary School joined the Sports Days.

Before the opening speech, there was a special ceremony. All students and teachers mourned for the ship tragedy that happened on 1st October for three minutes. After that, the scouts lowered the flag till its position was half of the flag staff.

The former Physical Educational Department Head of Carmel Secondary School, Mr. Leung Ming Hon made the opening speech. He told the students of Carmel to use their time wisely. “Time is your friend if you can use it wisely, if you don’t, time will be your enemy.”  He also told students that if they want to win others, they must win themselves first.

If one goes to CarmelSecondary School’s Sports Day, he or she would hear screaming and cheering for the whole day. Cheering teams’ chants were all over the sports ground. They cheered for the athletes.  When the athletes heard the cheering, they seemed to gain more energy and ran as fast as they could. As for the spectators’ stand, banners were hung at every corner with encouraging words.

The most exciting part of the sports days was the 12 x 200 relay. It was exciting because all older students participated in it. Their standard was almost the same as each other. At first, when the relay started, the runners formed a straight horizontal line. Their speed was almost the same. But then, there was a certain distance between each House. The cheering teams cheered even harder and the athletes kept on chasing the one in front of them. In the end, Loyalty House was the champion. However, all Houses were very satisfied with the result.

The school record-breaker this time was Wong Pui Ling from 4D. She broke the records in the Girls’ Grade B softball and 100 metres sprint. The distance of her softball was 44.7 metres, which was very far. And her sprint time for the 100 metres was 13.7 seconds. Wong Pui Ling broke her own record every year. Let’s see if she is able to break her record next year.

After two days of excitement, the sports days had come to its end. The supervisor of Carmel Professor Kwan Kai Cho Joseph made the concluding speech. In his speech, he encouraged Carmel students to exercise more while they are still young. Only by exercise can one have good health.

During the sports days, team spirit was seen everywhere. Older students always say Carmel is a family. Truly, it is.
