Which sports do you like to participate in? Volleyball? Basketball? Badminton? Snooker? How about squash, bowling or hockey? The sports club is now proposing that all of us should be required to join a sports team, I would like to support this constructive suggestion.

Being a sports team member, our interpersonal skills can be enhanced. Most members of our school always focus on their studies, thus they basically lack the ability in getting along with others. For example, they just insist on and consider their own thoughts or ideas without thinking of others’. But now, if all of us join the sports team, which requires us to communicate with our teammates during training or competition and emphasizes teamwork, we could improve our communication skills. When problems arise, the whole team would be responsible for dealing with them together. When we see our peers training very hard, we would encourage each other naturally and put in more efforts as well so as to accomplish our common goal – championship. We would start and try to learn how to communicate with our buddies and appreciate each other in face of challenges. Therefore, it is a good idea for all of us to join a sports team.

Besides, students’ discipline could be also regulated. Once we join any sports team, our identity is no longer only a student but we will also be a member representing our team. The more school rules we violate, the more bad names would be given to our team. In order to protect and maintain our team’s reputation, we surely will behave well.

On the other hand, it may be true that forcing students to do exercise would lower its effectiveness since students may not be eager to do so. Interest, however, is always developed after we repeatedly do something, for instance, playing badminton. Although students did not join the team voluntarily at the beginning, gradually they will realize their potential and even passion for the sports. So, students could gain by joining the team and have nothing to lose.

No matter whether students like sports or not, if all of us join a sports team we could have a chance to improve our communication skills, have better behaviour and find our interest. So, let’s welcome the sports club’s suggestion!
