Recently, a few teachers took their own lives and this has alarmed the city as a whole. I believe that all of us are surprised by this shocking news. For me, it is really sad and sorrowful that teachers pay much time and efforts into their job, but finally they resort to death for various reasons. Let me discuss and analyze why the teachers made such an unwise decision.
First of all, the teachers were probably very stressed under the educational reforms. Many teachers are, indeed, very stressed. Since their workload is increased by the reforms, their working hours are correspondingly prolonged. They not only need to mark the homework and projects done by students, but also have to do lesson preparations, write reports and arrange time to have extra lessons  in order to deal with the new education system, especially the coming HKDSE. Therefore, we can see that the teachers are working under great pressure, and they are not able to withstand the heavy workload easily. Under this heavy burden, teachers may feel desperate and ultimately have suicidal thoughts.
What’s more, most of the teachers are depressed nowadays. Why? The ever-changing government’s policy has overloaded the teachers, as such, they gradually develop many worries. Some teachers even have so much work to do and many of them are not mentally healthy. They become pessimistic and experience mood-swings. The teachers are deeply worried and anxious, but is there anyone who can understand their feelings? If the teachers keep leading such a gloomy life, they may have no way out but commit suicide.
Since the situation of teachers committing suicide is severe, measures should be taken to help solve the problem. Firstly, the government should set up a special committee for reducing the workload of the teachers. The committee should investigate the resource allocation of schools and help lighten the work of the teachers. Also, the government could set up a hotline for teachers to express their feelings. As the teachers can hardly find somebody to understand them, especially the difficulties they face at work, a hotline should be set up for them to help them ease their stress and also to allow the government to hear their voices.
Furthermore, I believe that the family and friends around the teachers can help. If their friends and family can care about them more and share their feelings, the stressed teachers will feel loved and become hopeful. Also, we could talk more to the teachers to express our love and concern to them. The teachers will become more energetic and optimistic after getting the words of encouragement from their precious students.
So, have you ever paid any attention to your teachers’ situation? Have you ever put yourselves into their shoes? I hope that all of us can care more about our teachers, who are really exhausted and tired every day, and show them some love after reading this article.
Will you make them feel loved? Yes, I will.
