Dare to Try?

As everyone knows, in the 21st century, hi-tech gadgets and devices play an important role in our lives. Besides, there are increasing varied designs and styles of these products, which for sure are temptations to many. Mobile phones and computers are indispensable to us. Facebook , twitter, MSN, etc are the common places and platforms for us to express feelings, exchange recent situations and even make friends. However, is there really no way to live without them?
To find out the answer, I’d joined the “Dare to Try?” programme run by a youth magazine, in which I experienced a week without using my cell phone and getting online. I would love to share about how I went through those seven days.
The first day, no doubt, was a big challenge for me. I had no idea it was that difficult to do this task. It’s nearly mission impossible! My fingers did not get used to being free so they were twitching all the time. I kept holding my cell phone and wanted to turn it on. Also, I felt panicky that I might miss out the messages and  updated news of my friends. It felt like I lost the connection with them. A little ache of loneliness began to niggle in my nerves.
The second day was a twist, though because I started to think how to deal with the task. I stopped myself from being wallowed in bore, so I went to the library and grabbed several books. I felt calm and peaceful while reading them.
I did quite a lot of things that I would not do normally in those days. For example, I watched TVB’s soap operas, and I found that they were really idiotic sometimes. Apart from this, I grabbed my camera and went to Stanley to take some pictures, appreciating the beauty of nature. Besides, I found that I got more time to be with my mum, and she felt happier those days. It looked as if I had neglected her for long before. Poor mom!
As the days passed by, the seventh day finally came. I was so keyed up and excited. I made it! Maybe this task sounds easy for some people but not for one, like me in this Internet generation / Gen Z. So, how did it feel like? Good? Definitely not. Nonetheless, I somehow felt …  I went to the places that I did not usually go to and did the things that I usually wouldn’t do. It seemed like I just had another life.
Yet, I still think it’s quite impossible to live without the hi-tech devices since we’re living in this digital world. Generally speaking, they’re necessary, but we should use them properly and not over rely on them. Using them wisely is the key, I guess.
