Michelle Chan—the one who is like ‘fish’

Mrs. Wong, do you like eating fish? I hope not, because one of my classmates is one of them. She won’t appreciate others eating her kind. Yet I am only kidding. The one I want to introduce is Chan Yu Yu Michelle, whose Chinese name sounds almost like ‘fish fish’(she has earrings in the shape of a fish!). That is why when some teachers show pictures or photos of fish, classmates often turn their face to Michelle and laugh. Whenever anybody says about fish, she will sometimes respond to him or her as she probably doesn’t know whether he or she is talking about Michelle, or other unrelated things. Nevertheless, you should have known all of these because you taught 1E before.

The first time I met her is in Form 2. At the beginning of the first term, I sat next to her due to the fact that our class teacher scheduled our seats according to our class numbers. I think she is often kind and helpful. Even though I am quite timid to meet strangers, I already knew her quite well on the first day as she is talkative even to people she doesn’t know. We found a joke as her schoolbag is made of plastic: in Cantonese, ‘plastic schoolbag’ is exactly the reverse of ‘wrapping plastic sheets’.

She had changed her eye-glasses a few times. In Form 2, she wore wooden-colored glasses or dark grey glasses. Later she bought a black one, which she is currently wearing. All of them have pairs of thick arms. I think she is fond of her teeth as they are white and neat-looking, unlike a shark.

Despite her kindness, she can be sometimes violent. I remembered well that on the first few weeks of Form 2, she got furious with me and sank her ‘talons’ to my arm. I dunno fish have really sharp claws, mind. I am a lucky case as I perfectly know that she can knock me out with a good kick. Although I can also do this since we both taekwondo, it’s best not to cross her as everybody will regret this reckless action.
