A meaningful visit

Last week, I had a visit to the home for the elderly. First, we gathered at the school playground. Teachers briefed us on the allocation of works. We carried all the gifts and got on the school bus.

We arrived at the home for the elderly at 2 o’clock. The manager of the home for the elderly led us to the elderly after we had settled down. Those elderly people were all friendly and we chatted with them happily. We talked about their life in the home for the elderly and also our school life. They were interested in our school life and shared some hints of studying when they were young. Although they needed to stay in the home for the elderly, their life was interesting. They could play chess, chat with others, do exercise to stretch their body and brain.

Then, we held a mini-concert. We sang and played guitar and accordion. I was one of the singers performing on the stage too! The elderly enjoyed our performance so much. They even sang along with us at the end. We were so glad to see that.

Next, we distributed the gifts to the elderly. We bought them scarves and gloves that were woven by ourselves. It was because the weather was being cold then. They put on the gloves and scarves immediately. Also, we had written some cards to them. They felt warm after reading our cards with supportive and positive words.

After that, we helped them to clean the home for the elderly. Some of us swept the floor. Some of us cleaned the windows and the others made their beds. My job was to clean the windows and it was the first time for me to do that. Although it was a tough job, I would try my best to do that. Luckily, I cleaned the windows very well and I know how to clean windows now. We did those jobs successfully and the rooms were very tidy.

Finally, it was time to leave. We waved at them on the school bus and they kept on smiling to us. We missed them so much. It was a great experience to visit the home for the elderly. I hoped that I could visit them again.
