This book talks about a poor little boy called Oliver Twist, who was an orphan. His mother died when he was born and so he lived in an orphan workhouse. The counselors there were very unkind and treated them badly. Since he had angered one of counselors, Oliver was sent to a coffin shop as a child worker. Oliver could not tolerate the cruelty of the coffin shop owner and he ran away and went to London. Later, Oliver met a strange boy and he introduced Fagin to Oliver. They treated Oliver very well but actually, they were thieves! They then forced Oliver to become a part of them.
One day a policeman caught Oliver as he thought Oliver stole an old gentleman’s wallet. Luckily, a kind-hearted witness proved Oliver was innocent. Then Oliver was adopted by that gentleman Mr. Brownlow. Once, Oliver went out to buy books. He got kidnapped by Fagin again. Fortunately, with the help of Mr. Brownlow and Nancy, who belonged to Fagin’s gang, Oliver escaped from the plight and lived with Mr. Brownlow happily.

Though “Oliver Twist” is the masterpiece of the literary giant Charles Dickens, it is not difficult as the language used is simple and clear.
After walking through the miserable childhood road of Oliver, I eventually notice how lucky I am. I have a full family and I need not beg for more soup to cram my starving belly. I should not keep on asking for what I desire and instead, I should treasure what I have right now. It is a bit ironic but only comparison can tell us that we are blessed. You will never be sure if you can open your eyes to see the aqua blue sky tomorrow. Life is just very delicate. No one has the time to hesitate over whether treasuring life or not.
I appreciate Oliver wholeheartedly. Although his life was harsh, he never meant to blame anyone. He just kept on striving for his own life. Moreover, he never wanted to become a thief. Cruel environment did not erode his good nature. Oliver really has taught me the real meaning of persistence. Only persistence could us bring the gleams of life.
Besides, I have learnt about the importance of conscience. Nancy in the book was originally a brutal thief but then she was not hardhearted enough to kill Oliver and she chose to forsake darkness. She helped to save Oliver and at last, she sacrificed. She told me that we should uphold justice in order to live proudly. Life is so short and we should not allow any regret in it.
After reading this book, I think that maybe the meaning of staying alive is to colorize others’ life and flourish our own soul by sharing love just like what Mr. Brownlow and Nancy had done.
A good book can impress its readers. Oliver Twis
