A day as an airplane (1D Fung Chee Wing, Raine)

Since Covid-19, I had been left alone in the desert for almost three years. I missed my home, Hong Kong very much. Eventually I resumed my duty today.

I was woken up by the airport ground staff at six o’clock in the morning. They opened my tummy. After that, I heard so much noise coming towards me. I opened my eyes. I saw a variety of passengers walking towards my body. I also noticed some new faces of pilots and the cabin crew. It was so crowded and lively. It was the time to start my job.

I was very busy today. I had three flights carrying passengers and one flight carrying cargos. So our first destination was to Tokyo, Japan.

“V1, Rotate,” I reminded the pilots. The plane took off. I was in the sky then. I missed flying in the sky. It was so great. At that moment, I though, “Ha! Ha! Who is tickling me?” I felt a cabin crew walking towards the cabin in my body. I wondered if it was time to let the pilots have breakfast. Not long after, I saw the Fuji Mountain. My map system reminded the pilots again. Captain Smith held the broadcaster talking to the passengers. After thirty minutes, we arrived at our first destination, Tokyo. There were lots of cherry blossoms. I missed Japan very much.

After a short break, we started the way to Bejing, China. On the way, I could enjoy the pleasant environment since I was carrying cargos. No more noise and laughter, just only the engine sound. For this flight, I felt so relaxed. I saw lots of verdant grassland and soaring cliffs. I even flew above the Great Wall, After a while, we arrived at Beijing. The workers used different machines to unload the cargos. I waited so long. Therefore, I decided to sleep for fifteen minutes. Doing lots of things during my first day was exhausting.

There were two more flights to go. After a nap, I felt I had boundless energy. I continued my journey.

Next, we went to Bangkok, Thailand. On the way, there were some passengers from Thailand. They had spoken Thai for their whole flight. I also learnt some Thai, for example, “Sawadee Ka”. It is “hello” in English. When it was 4:30 in the afternoon, we arrived.

It was the last flight of today, Bangkok to Hong Kong. I was getting ready for my last flight. When some passengers were entering my body, the cabin crew said, “Welcome aboard!” During this flight, I heard children’s laughter and snoring sound. The cabin crew got a trolley. They were asking which set of food the passengers wanted. They were having dinner. However, I was still full after being fed with my lovely dinner — engine oil. After their dinner, the lights were turned off. It was the time for sleeping. It was 10:07 p.m. We were going to land, “Thirty, twenty, ten (feet), retard.” My computer system made such a noise. The plane was on the ground. Yeah! I arrived home — Hong Kong.

Now, I am in my apron waiting for the next day’s flight. No matter how high we fly or where we are, from the beauty of the natural world to the bustling cities and towns below,  we are connected as a part of the same world — a world that is full of wonder, beauty, and endless possibilities. Because I can bring passengers safely to the destination, see their happy faces after finishing the journeys and assisting them to return home to see their families, I have a strong sense of achievement and satisfaction. I love my job!
