Write an essay arguing either for or against the statement, “It is better to study in a coeducational school (a school with students of both sexes) than a single-sex school.”

Someone says that it is better to study in a coeducational school than a single-sex school. A coeducational school means a school with students of both sexes while a single-sex school means a school with students of the same sex. I fully support this statement because of the following reasons.

Firstly, in my opinion, students can know more about the people of the other sex in coeducational schools. Some students in a single-sex school do not know how to communicate with other people of the other sex. My cousin John is an example. He has been studying in a single-sex school since primary school. As he does not have any chances to communicate with females, he does not know how to do when he has a quarrel with his girlfriend. Studying in a coeducational school will avoid this kind of problem since students get to know how to communicate and respect other people of a different sex.

Secondly, I think studying in a coeducational school will give students less pressure. In girls’ schools, there will be lots of gossip or discrimination. Girls just like to play with friends whom they like, and those who do not like gossiping will be discriminated by the others. My friend Peony is studying in a girls’ school. She is suffering from great pressure since she has to join the girls in gossiping or else she will be discriminated by the others and no one would like to make friends with her anymore. She thinks that gossiping is so annoying and she prefers studying in a coeducational school to a single-sex school. The same kind of problems will not appear in a coeducational school as students can learn from other students of a different sex. Girls studying in a coeducational school will not gossip as much as girls studying in a single-sex school, while boys studying in a coeducational school will not fight as much as boys studying in a single-sex school. Therefore, students of a coeducational school will suffer from less pressure.

Thirdly, students studying in a coeducational school score better grades than those who study in a single-sex school. Students of coeducational schools will not spend much time gossiping or fighting. Instead, they would spend their time studying. As a result, students who study in a coeducational school can always score better grades than those who study in a single-sex school.

To sum up, I support the statement, ‘’It is better to study in a coeducational school than a single-sex school.’’ since students who study in a coeducational school can know how to communicate with people of the other sex, suffer from less pressure and score better grades than those who are studying in a single-sex school.
