Topic: You are taking part in a photo exhibition called ‘My Memories’. As part of the photo exhibition, you have presented two photos. Now you need to give a title to each and a brief explanation of why these photos are meaningful to you.

Title: Never afraid of mistakes

This little girl in the photo, gently raising her hand, staring firmly onto the blackboard, ready to write down the answer to a challenging mathematics question, was me in primary one. My maths teacher then always encouraged her students to push themselves to their limits. She often tested us with difficult questions, and I was always the first to attempt them despite the great possibility of being wrong. I, in the photo, had already undergone three trials. Unfortunately, all ended with mistakes and failure. However, though being too young and naïve to bear repeated disappointment, I did not give up and went to present my answer on the board for the fourth time. This photo was taken at that unforgettable moment, manifesting a girl fearless of mistakes and full of confidence and enthusiasm. Eventually, I got the answer correct. The photo has constantly reminded me that under no circumstances should I be afraid of mistakes. Instead, I should learn from them and expand my knowledge. I was able to do it back then and I am able to do it now. This photo is my motivation to gear up and go the extra mile.

Title: From nothing to friendship

Who says strangers can’t be best friends forever? I joined a three-day summer camp of Youth Volunteer organized by the YMCA last year, during which I had to stick with a group of strangers I had barely known. All of us, as a team in the camp, failed to accomplish the tasks assigned because we were total strangers to each other. Embarrassment, discomfort, and tension are aroused as we’re failing again and again. Fortunately, the girl with the brightest smile in the photo took the initiative to start a chat and tried to make friends. Through more and more conversations, we got to know each other more. The gap between us was gradually bridged and bonding slowly emerged. On the final day of the camp, our team joined a volleyball competition. Not only did we gain enough courage to yell each other’s names on the field, but we also joined together and discussed gaming strategies. Eventually, we won the competition. This photo always reminds me that the ice walls among strangers can be broken as long as someone is willing to step out of his or her comfort zone and display a sign of friendliness. Everyone can be friends despite all obstructions or distant feelings.
