Dear Diary,

Gee whiz, I feel a glow of happiness as the day has finally passed. I was fidgeting, stuttering, and sweating the whole school day. Counterintuitively, the day after exams turned out to be a worst-case scenario.

I had been on pins and needles since I passed the classroom door. It was because of the sudden news about exam paper distribution of all subjects. I started to have butterflies in my stomach and didn’t expect much due to the fact that I was under the weather during the exam weeks.

‘Ring…’ Recess ended, and teachers came into the classroom with piles of paper. ‘This is a special year. Unlike what we did before, the school decided to distribute all exam papers to students in one go.’ I was doomed. My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach when I heard the declaration from my class teacher. With shaking legs and hands, I received my nine thick exam papers. I took a glimpse of my marks, and a cold wave of dread washed over me. Oh my goodness! Poor me! I failed all my subjects! I couldn’t believe my eyes and lost my soul until the bell rang.

My friend, Lucy, hopped to my seat. I could see the grin on her face from far away. ‘How is it? Are you on top of the world like me?’ She asked me in a joyful tune. ‘I failed all my subjects.’ I beckoned her over and whispered ear to ear. Her eyes and mouth were never that big. She changed her emotion all of a sudden. ‘That’s the way the cookie crumbles.’ She tried to cheer me up. However, I was bent out of shape and even more aggrieved.

‘It’s true! Cherry failed all subjects!’ A rude classmate yelled at the top of his lungs. I could hear the sound of laughter. My cheeks burned as I met the sharp, accusing glares of my classmates. I wished the Earth would open up and swallow me. I tried my very best to disguise my mortification the entire day.

What a day! I’ll probably be teased by classmates for years because of this incident. This is my most profound regret. I’ll never tell my friends any secrets!

I’m so sorry, diary. I’ve written way too much today.

      Cheers,

Cherry
