The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl

‘T was a summer night when I set sail,
Together with my mum and dad.
We saw two bright stars weeping in the sky,
So we asked why they were so sad.

“We are Niulang and Zhinu,
Separated from each other by the Milky River.
We’ve been punished by the Goddess of Heaven,
So we can’t meet each other.”

Touched by their love for each other,
I took out my magic wand.
I waved it three times,
And the magpies formed a bridge under my command.

Niulang and Zhinu were very glad.
They’d been parted for so long.
They met and hugged each other,
And sang a beautiful song.
