Dear Editor

I am writing to express my opinion on socializing on Facebook. It is obvious that there is an increasing trend in using Facebook. However, I believe that socializing on Facebook does more harm than good to the users because of the following reasons:

First, socializing on Facebook requires much time. Many users spend lots of time on updating their current status, giving comments on their friends’ posts and pay full attention to the games on Facebook, such as ‘Happy Farm’ and Restaurant City’.

Besides, socializing on Facebook lacks privacy. Privacy problem might occur when we use Facebook. Our photos and videos would be widely spread and, shown to everyone. Then others could know whom you me have met, what you have done and what you have said by clicking just a few buttons.

The above are the cons of socializing on Facebook. I would also like to talk about the main advantage of using Facebook. Facebook enables users to share their lives with on another. They could communicate more with others.

While it may be true that Facebook could provide a communication channel to its users, it might fail to enhance the relationship of its users and their friends. It would seem that people only chitchat on Facebook. It is extremely likely that their conversation does not carry any meanings. Hence, it would appear that the users’ interpersonal relationship would not be improved through such insignificant chatter. In addition to this, if the users depend much on using Facebook to socialize, their face-to-face socializing skills might be worsened.

Taking both the pros and cons into consideration, I agree that socializing on Facebook does more harm than good to the users. I suggest the users not to spend excessive time on using Facebook. Face-to-face socializing would be a better choice for them definitely.

Yours faithfully
