A. Introduction

As we all know, knowledge enriches our mind. As students, we should capitalize on our summer holidays to equip ourselves with different branches of knowledge. In order to expose the students to a different culture, enhance their language skills and give the students a chance to travel and have fun after their public examination, the Youth 17 would like to take 40 Form Five students on a study tour for two weeks in July. The followings are details of the proposed study tour.

B. Proposed destination

We think that taking the tour to London is a good idea. As a matter of fact, English is hailed as an international language, meaning that this language is very important. Furthermore, through the visit to London, the students can not only boost their language skills, but also widen their horizons and broaden their knowledge. It is also a good chance to expose the students to a different culture, which they may seldom have the chance to get in touch with.

C. Proposed Activities

In order to improve students’ knowledge in different aspects and give them a chance to have fun after the public examination, activities which are neither exam-oriented nor closely related to academic areas are better choices. The Youth 17 would like to recommend three kinds of educational activities. Some examples are proposed as follows:

(1) English Fun Fair

Many students in Hong Kong are quite weak in writing and speaking English. They do not realize how important English is in society. The students can find a lot of games and activities conducted in English.

English Fun Fair enables students to interact with the foreigners in a relaxing way. Through the activities, they can get to know each other better naturally. Being exposed to a genuine English speaking environment, they can enhance their language skills and broaden their horizons.

(2) Site Visit

As we all know London is a wonderful international city which is a mixture of different cultures. The students can visit the ancient churches and the most modern architecture which co-exist in this beautiful European city. Moreover, the Thames River is so well-known in the world that everyone should visit there. Through the site visits, students can learn more about different cultures, which cannot be found in their textbooks.

(3) Card games

Students can be put into teams to play some exciting card games. Through the games, not only can the students enhance their communication skills when they talk to foreigners in the games their language skills can also be improved.

D. Conclusion

In order to equip students with different branches of knowledge, the precious time in the holidays shouldn’t be idled away. I am sure that this 2-week study tour would offer the students an excellent opportunity to broaden their horizons and a good chance to take a break after the public exam as well.
