My favorite day of the week is Sunday. Why Sunday? It’s because it is the only day that I can spend quality time with my family. However, last Sunday was very extraordinary. Well, actually, it was pretty hectic.

Last Sunday, I woke up with my stomach grumbling very fiercely. I was so hungry to the extent that I felt like I was dying. Oh, and did I mention that my dad had a business party to attend that day? In other words, my family and I weren’t able to go out because without my dad, we felt really down and incomplete. As I was leaping down the corridor, I shouted, “Mom! Wake up! Let’s eat. I’m extremely hungry!” She wasn’t answering, so I went by her bedroom door and took a peek. ‘Huh? That’s strange,’ I thought. Mum was nowhere to be seen. I got even more curious. My curiosity led me to go and examine her room. I was so intrigued and worried at the same time. Not long after, I started to notice a bump in the sheets. ‘Her pillow wouldn’t be as small as a little kitten,’ I murmured to myself. Right when I flipped the sheets over, my voice and an unfamiliar tiny voice collided together in a scream that could make anyone’s ears bleed. “Mom?” I yelled with a look of disbelief on my face. I couldn’t think properly, but I still managed to ask her what happened. It turned out that she ate some odd leftovers from our takeaway the night before. None of us knew why and we tried our best to keep calm. After all, she is still my mom.

Taking care of her wasn’t as bad as I thought. It was like taking care of a doll, a live one. She used toothpicks as utensils and wore Barbie clothes that surprisingly fitted her well. I helped her do household chores and it turned out really fun. Removing dust particles from corners of the room was a piece of cake to her! We spent the day joyfully, despite the fact that her body had shrunk and there was a moment I had mistaken her as a rat while cleaning.

That evening, we were chatting on the sofa, with her on my lap. I gave her a piece of colourful candy that I found in my pocket. She nibbled on it joyfully. All of a sudden, she started growing really fast as if there was a time-travel machine being turned on. Her Barbie clothes started to rip and soon enough she was back to her normal size, naked. Thank goodness she had a blanket on. We were both very relieved and thankful that she went back to her original size.

That day, in particular, was very unforgettable. It gave me quite an experience and I’ve learnt a lesson as well. It has made me realize how much time means to us as anything can happen at any second. Therefore, we should always treasure our time, especially with our family. We should also be always ready for anything that comes, such as challenges. I’m amused by how much could happen within a second. Hopefully I could discover more next time.
