Thank you, my only friend!

I am an orphan.  I hadn’t had any friends or relatives until I was 15 years old.  In the past, no one cared about me.  I thought that if I disappeared suddenly, no one would remember me.
However, everything changed when I was 15.  One night, I stole all the money of a caretaker quietly and ran away from the orphanage by myself.  The life in the orphanage was so dull that I did not want to stay there anymore.
After a few weeks, all the money was nearly used up so I started to find a job.  Later, I got a job in a pub where many famous people would visit at night.  My job was a bartender.  I met so many artists and professionals.  They liked to chat with me, tell me how they felt and ask me to mix the alcoholic drinks for them according to their mood.  They all loved drinking the wine that I gave them.  Everyone liked to share their joy and tears with me but no one wanted to listen to my sharing.  I really felt lonely.
One night, I decided to take drugs to relax.  Later I became a drug abuser and Tim, a drug provider, sold pills to me nearly every night.  I also sold them to some singers.  A famous singer, Derek Li, who always came to the pub, noticed that I started to take and sell drugs.  Derek was a singer who wanted to hold a world concert tour and get the best singer award in the world.
One day, he invited me to be his assistant because his former assistant had to get married.  As the salary and welfare were really good, I agreed to take the job immediately.  Yet, he told me not to give him an answer so quickly.  It was because he wanted me to obey a few rules.  “No smoking, no drugs and be on time.”  He knew I took drugs and wanted me to quit this bad habit.  He had promised that he would not tell others and I could share my experience with him.  I vowed to follow the rules because it was the first time that I felt warm in my life.
After a few months, Tim went to find me.  The reality went beyond my expectation.  He shouted at me, asked me why I did not buy and help him to sell drugs anymore, and even used a gun to threaten me.  At that time, Derek ran to me and fought with Tim.  Of course, Tim won because he was a triad member.  (But he was caught by the police after a few days) Derek was seriously injured with both legs broken.
Seeing Derek lying on the bed after the treatment, I did not know what to say.  “Thank you” was the only expression that I could articulate at that moment.  Then, I sobbed uncontrollably.  He knew that he couldn’t be a singer anymore.  He asked me to realize his dream.  At last, I did it!  When people were standing on the stage and receiving prizes they would thank a list of people while I just thanked one person, Derek Li.
If I have not met Derek in my life, I cannot get out of drugs.  I cannot have a chance to be a singer.  I also cannot understand what love is!
