The 16th Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou from November 12 to November 27, 2010. Some people suggested that Hong Kong should hold the Asian Games. I definitely agree. There are some reasons that support my stance.
Firstly, Hong Kong held the East Asian Games at the beginning of this year. The event was a success. Our school also held many activities to encourage us to do sports. At that time, not only our school but Hong Kong had a festive atmosphere. Hongkongers were willing to do more sport and they learnt the importance of sports from the Games.
Secondly, the sports facilities are getting improved in Hong Kong. A sports centre was built for the East Asian Games. If the Asian Games is held in Hong Kong, the facilities will be improved more. It can also motivate the citizens more. They will do more sports if the facilities are better.
Thirdly, holding the Asian Games can stimulate the economy in Hong Kong. The Asian Games is a famous sports event, and it attracts many spectators from the world. These sports fans may also go shopping so it boosts the Hong Kong tourism.
Lastly, the purpose of holding the Asian Games is to encourage people to do more sports. Hong Kong is an international city and people work like bees. They are often very tired and neglect the importance of sports. They may become overweight and get sick easily. I think the Asian Games draws attention to the importance of sports so that the people in Hong Kong can be health-conscious.
Considering the benefits of Asian Games to our city, we should hold this international event.
