As a student ambassador of an exchange programme to Britain, you are invited to give a speech in a gathering where some ambassadors would introduce the wonders of their home places. You would like to share with other attendees why you love HK so much and that it is surely a great tourist destination. Write the speech.

Good morning everyone! I’m Chris Wong from Hong Kong. Thanks for giving me this golden opportunity to deliver my speech. In the following, I’d like to share with all of you why I love my hometown so much and its unique characteristics.

At the very beginning, I’d like to ask you a few questions. How do you feel when you hear the name, Hong Kong? What has popped up immediately in your mind? The incredibly wonderful night scene of the Victoria Harbour? Or the Occupy Central Movement launched last year? To be honest, although Hong Kong might have a gloomy side, I still love this beautiful Pearl of the Orient.

You may certainly ask me why. I’ll tell you that it is the Hongkongers’ “can-do” spirit. Life isn’t easy, especially in Hong Kong where the living pace is hectic and pressure is considerable. However, with the “can-do” spirit and positive mindset, Hongkongers are able to overcome various difficulties and challenges. Just by recalling the difficult times we passed through during the SARS crisis in 2003 and the financial turmoil in 2008, you will understand. All people in the tiny city joined hands together to keep the environment clean to prevent further spreading of the disease and boosted the economy by working till the midnight or finding creative alternatives to earn a living. The so-called “Lion Rock spirit” has profoundly inspired me and  already become one of the core values of the Hong Kong people nowadays.

Another virtue is the perfect legal system. Equity, fairness and publicity are the three basic principles of Hong Kong’s legal system. What’s more, the Basic Law guarantees different freedoms to Hongkongers, such as the freedom of speech, the freedom of academy and the freedom of religion. On top of these, you’re able to choose or to say what you want. Moreover, corruption is rare in Hong Kong. After all, it is one of the freest and safest cities in the world, don’t you agree?

As a matter of fact, Hong Kong is also surely a great tourist destination which is visited by hundreds and thousands of tourists from the world every year. What’re the wonders?

To begin with, Hong Kong is a mixing bowl of the East and West. Travelling to Hong Kong is like travelling to the whole world at the same time as you can try a wide range of delicacies from different countries, such as pizza from Italy, hamburger from the US and sushi from Japan, you name it. It can absolutely bring an unforgettable experience and adventure to your tongue! Furthermore, it is a place of “world harmony”, as nobody gets beaten up or murdered for the colour of their skin. We welcome all walks of life from all over the world

Besides, the remarkable transport system helps explain the success of tourism in Hong Kong. You don’t actually need to own a private car in Hong Kong because our public transport is so efficient, convenient and comfortable. What’s more, the two world-famous theme parks, Ocean Park and the Disneyland, make the trip to Hong Kong even more wonderful, meaningful and fantastic. With numerous tourist attractions and its extensive infrastructure, there is no doubt that Hong Kong is one of the most famous tourist destinations you should never miss out.

All in all, Hong Kong is really a wonderful city to live or to travel. I’m so proud of being a Hongkonger and love the city where I grow up so much. I hope all of you can grab more ideas of my dearest hometown and even go visiting it in the future! Thank you!
