Karen and Lily – A Modern Fable

Have you heard the story of The Fox and The Crow?  In the story, the fox wanted to have the very tasty-looking piece of cheese of the crow, so it tricked the crow and got the cheese.  The story meant: Be careful when people say nice things about you – they may be trying to trick you.
My friend, Karen, was shy of singing because she worried that she would sing badly.  During a music lesson once, another friend of mine, Lily, discovered that Karen sang nicely.  One day, Lily went to Karen's home.  She encouraged Karen to sing.
"Karen, I think your singing’s not bad but good.  Why are you so shy of that?"
"Don't trick me.  My singing is bad."
"I don't think so.  When you sing, try to relax and don't worry.  Can you try once now?"
Karen sang a little.
"Good!  I enjoy your singing.  Can you keep it on?"
Karen kept on singing and she was braver than before.
"Well done!  You've just overcome the difficulty."  Lily smiled.
Karen was glad.  "Yeah!  I could overcome my shyness.  Thank you, Lily."  She thought.
See, this story tells us: When somebody says something nice about you, they may not be tricking you.  However, they may let you know more about yourself. Karen and Lily were an example.
