A Secret
Mr. Chan was the husband of Mrs. Chan, and the father of David. He was a really rich and fortunate man who enjoyed the time with his family.
However, one day, Mr. Chan lost his job because of the financial crisis. He was very worried and upset, and decided to keep this as a secret because he did not want his family members to feel sad.
Surprisingly, on the same day, Mrs. Chan realized that she had leukemia and needed to have an operation immediately; or else she would die. However, she was told that even after the operation, she would only have a 10 percent chance of living. As Mrs. Chan did not want to waste her husband’s money, she decided to keep this as a secret too, to prevent her husband and son from being worried about her.
Even more surprisingly, David won the lottery and had $20 million. However, he decided to keep this as a secret because he thought that his father did not need this money as he was a rich businessman.
The next day, Mrs. Chan fainted and was sent to hospital.
The doctor said to Mr. Chan, “Sir, your wife is dying of leukemia and if she doesn’t have the operation right now, she will die.”
Mr. Chan thought for a moment, and said, “Sorry, I don’t have any money. I can’t afford the cost of the operation. I have lost my job.”
Mrs. Chan died and David arrived at the hospital. The doctor explained everything and David was very regretful for not telling his father that he had won a lot of money.
If Mr. Chan had not kept “losing his job” as a secret, his son would have given him money, and if Mrs. Chan had told her family about her illness, they could have helped her.
We must always tell our difficulties to our family members and never keep secrets unnecessarily. This is the only way we can help each other.

I heard a faint noise from the kitchen. Someone was calling my name,“Lesley! Lesley! Come here!”
Was I hallucinating?  Silently, I tip-toed to the kitchen.  As I peered into the sink, I nearly fainted. My mum had shrunk and was no bigger than my hand! I was horrified and started slapping myself really hard to make sure that I was not dreaming. My little mum told me in a reedy voice, “God said that this is a test to see if you are mature and calm enough to exchange role with me. I would grow back to normal size only if you pass the test.”
I started to cook my own lunch, but I had difficulties in cooking mum’s. I used a knife to chop one grain of rice into ten pieces so that it could fit into mum’s mouth, and I nearly wounded my finger! Afterwards, I gave mum two
