I’m writing to express my view on the use of social networking platform. In the modern society, people are using social networking platforms more often. The term ‘social networking platform’ is defined as a free online platform for people to meet friends and express their ideas freely. However, I support the view that social networking platform brings harm to people.
First of all, social networking platforms are frankly dangerous. Users can meet new friends easily simply adding or following people on the sites. Users can start a conversation with them. Although meeting a new friend is a nice thing to do, the ‘friends’ users meet may not appear to be what users expected. Users can use fake names, addresses and profile photos. The real person may use different filters to beautify their looks. However, reality is not the case. That person’s occupation and background may also be fake and mysterious. They may meet users in a place and kidnap the users. Besides, many users’ personal information and profile are leaked by Facebook. It caused an infringement of privacy. Therefore, It’s very dangerous and it brings harm to people.
Secondly, users may have their communication skills weakened. As they mainly meet friends in those social networking platforms, it is more convenient for them to express their ideas by typing or with emojis. They may not be able to talk fluently in reality and weaken their communication skills. It may affect their interpersonal skills also, leading to a worse results in job interviews in the future or speaking exams. Also, using social networking platforms will lower the chance of talking to their parents in person, and it will further negatively affect their relationship with parents. As a result, social networking platform harm their social lives and communication skills. thus bringing harm to people.
Also, social networking platform may also result in cyber-bullying. Users can remain anonymous freely on the Internet. They may scold or use foul language to insult people. As they remain anonymous, they do not have to care about the consequences. They can scold or insult the users openly and freely. Users may feel serious emotional problems and get depressed, Users may feel insulted and even want to end their lives by committing suicide. As it is a free social platform, users are brave enough to express their views, but they do not care about the consequences and the feelings they bear. Users m at lose confidence and even further affect their social lives. They may lose the sense of belonging and get depressed. Therefore, social networking platform may result in cyber-bullying and brings harm to people. Social networking platform results in various harm as shown.
To conclude, although social networking platform brings benefits and convenience, it also results in various detriments to people by affecting their emotions, causing dangers and affecting the communication skills. Therefore, I support the view that the use of social networking platform brings harm to people.
