{"id":773,"date":"2011-09-14T11:59:54","date_gmt":"2011-09-14T11:59:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web02.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters2\/archives\/773"},"modified":"2015-05-24T07:05:23","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T07:05:23","slug":"a-terrific-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters\/archives\/773","title":{"rendered":"A Terrific Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 46th Annual Carmel Sports Day was held at the Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground on 4th October 2010.&nbsp; The students and parents filled the spectators&rsquo; stands.&nbsp; The weather was cloudy.&nbsp; There were showers of rain but the sports ground was filled with excitement.<br \/>The Sports Day began with a prayer led by the leader of Senior Christian Fellowship.&nbsp; All the people sang the school song while some scouts were performing the flag raising ceremony.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mr Kung Kam-tim, the Principal, made the opening speech.&nbsp; He reminded students the importance of unity by comparing the Chinese and the Japanese.&nbsp; He also encouraged them to try their best in the track and field events. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;The competitors from each house participated enthusiastically in the various events.&nbsp; The cheering team and the spectators of each house cheered loudly when they saw athletes of their house won the game.&nbsp; The cheering teams danced very gracefully too.&nbsp; It was marvellous that some teachers danced with them.&nbsp; Some students also waved flags.&nbsp; Everyone was very excited. <br \/>The most exciting event was the house-teacher 4 by 100m relay.&nbsp; It was a close match.&nbsp; At first, Virtue House was in the lead and Loyalty House was the second.&nbsp; Luckily, the last runner of Loyalty House ran extremely fast and overtook Mr Paul Wong, the last runner of Virtue House.&nbsp; Finally, Loyalty House won.<\/p>\n<p>Another exciting event was the boys&rsquo; grade C 4 by 100m relay.&nbsp; The players from Intellect House ran very fast and led all the way.&nbsp; All the students from Intellect House screamed loudly when the last runner breasted the finishing tape. <\/p>\n<p>Wong Pui-ling of 2D broke the school record in the girls&rsquo; grade C 60m sprint.&nbsp; She is such a fast runner!&nbsp; Her time was 8.31 seconds.&nbsp; The winner of the girls&rsquo; grade C softball was Lee Ying-ying of S2.&nbsp; She also broke the school record.&nbsp; Her distance was 35.91 metres and her performance was so amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Before the Closing Ceremony, many students and parents participated in the parent-child brisk walk or jog.&nbsp; It was a good opportunity for students and parents to participate in a sports event together.&nbsp; They enjoyed the brisk walk very much. <\/p>\n<p>Mrs Leung Ip-yau, the guest-of-honour, made the inspirational concluding speech. She said she was very fit because she had done a lot of exercise when she lived in Cheung Chau in the past.&nbsp; She explained that every letter in the word &ldquo;SPORTS&rdquo; had a special meaning.&nbsp; The first &ldquo;S&rdquo; stood for stress relieving.&nbsp; &ldquo;P&rdquo; stood for physical fitness.&nbsp; &ldquo;O&rdquo; stood for optimistic attitude.&nbsp; &ldquo;R&rdquo; stood for resistant to illness.&nbsp; &ldquo;T&rdquo; stood for team spirit and the last &ldquo;S&rdquo; stood for shine for your house and yourself.<\/p>\n<p>After delivering the speech, Mrs Leung Ip-yau presented the prizes.&nbsp; Virtue House won both the &ldquo;Cheering Team Champion&rdquo; and the &ldquo;Overall Championship&rdquo;.&nbsp; Intellect House was the first runner up.&nbsp; Many students from Intellect House cried, especially the cheering team because they had spent a lot of effort in practicing dancing but their house was unable to become the champion. <br \/>Everyone enjoyed the Sports Day very much.&nbsp; Keith Lee of 1C thought that the Sports Day was very exciting.&nbsp; He opined that the house-teacher 4 by 100m relay was the most spectacular event because it was fun to see the teachers running.&nbsp; Many students had the same feeling. <\/p>\n<p>The 46th Annual Carmel Sports Day was a success.&nbsp; Every player did their best.&nbsp; Everyone had a memorable time. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 46th Annual Carmel Sports Day was held at the Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground on 4th October 2010.
