{"id":656,"date":"2010-09-30T13:55:46","date_gmt":"2010-09-30T13:55:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web02.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters2\/archives\/656"},"modified":"2015-05-24T06:51:51","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T06:51:51","slug":"days-of-exploring-and-experiencing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters\/archives\/656","title":{"rendered":"Days of Exploring and Experiencing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was so happy to be 18 and I hoped I could travel by myself.&nbsp; I had never thought that I could get the chance so soon.&nbsp; I got the Australian Working Holiday visa, and I was allowed to stay on holiday in the country for up to one year and to work there in order to make my living.<br \/>&nbsp;It was not an easy job to be a farmer.&nbsp; As I stayed with a couple, Jack and Olivia, and they owned a farm,&nbsp; they gave me a very rare chance to work for them.&nbsp; I was very excited that I could be such a young farmer.&nbsp; The farm was so big.&nbsp; There were cows, chickens, and some crops.&nbsp; I loved the place so much as I would be able to stay with the farm animals and work under the sun every day.<br \/>&nbsp;Since it was my first job and the first day that I arrived, the family I stayed with and the other farmers held a surprise party to welcome me.&nbsp; They shared their experience with me and sang some songs to me.&nbsp; We enjoyed it so much.<br \/>&nbsp;After the party, I was brought around the huge farm.&nbsp; I tried to feed the chicks and touch the cows.&nbsp; When I first took the food into the farm, all the chicks were chasing me.&nbsp; I was so nervous that I just hid behind Olivia.&nbsp; I worried that the animals would hurt me.<br \/>&nbsp;Then, Olivia brought me to the cows.&nbsp; They were all giants!&nbsp; I tried to look into their big eyes, and two of the cows took a step forward.&nbsp; I was so frightened that I quickly walked a few steps back.&nbsp; Unfortunately, they walked towards me again.&nbsp; I thought that I was going to be eaten by the cows.&nbsp; Therefore, I screamed out twice and all of the cows just ran away.&nbsp; <br \/>&ldquo;Why did the cows run away after I shouted?&rdquo; I asked stupidly.<br \/>&nbsp;&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a kind of signal to flee when they are in danger, such as in a fire,&rdquo; Olivia explained to me patiently.<br \/>&nbsp;Then, Olivia ordered me to take the cows back.&nbsp; I went far away from the farmland and used over two hours to look for them.&nbsp; It was so hard as the countryside in Australia was huge and the weather was dry and hot.&nbsp; Luckily, I could see the cows staying together and waiting for me to come.&nbsp; Eventually, I could bring them back before it became dark.<br \/>&nbsp;When I got back, Jack and Olivia had already cooked the dinner and they were waiting for me.&nbsp; Most of the ingredients of the meal were their farm produce.&nbsp; It was so delicious.&nbsp; Then, my first day there ended on a good note.<br \/>&nbsp;During the long holiday, I enjoyed the best time of my life.&nbsp; Unlike staying in Hong Kong, I could feel very comfortable when I worked in Australia.&nbsp; The people there do not rush and enjoy spending their time leisurely.&nbsp; Also, I found my strengths and weaknesses when I was working there.&nbsp; It was really a great experience for me.&nbsp; I will definitely go again if I have this precious chance in the future.&nbsp; I think all of you should grab all the chances to explore the world instead of just surfing the Internet and playing video games at home during holidays.&nbsp; A working holiday can definitely pave the way for your future job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I was so happy to be 18 and I hoped I could travel by myself.
