{"id":6457,"date":"2019-07-10T03:39:47","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T03:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters\/?p=6457"},"modified":"2019-07-10T03:39:52","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T03:39:52","slug":"banning-dolphin-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters\/archives\/6457","title":{"rendered":"Banning Dolphin Shows?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear Editor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am writing to show my opposition to the\nban on the dolphin shows at Ocean Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, dolphin shows are not\ninhumane.&nbsp; The dolphins kept in the park are\nproperly fed, taken care of, and are not subjected to unethical acts such as\ntortures caused by harsh training and performance.&nbsp; In fact, the dolphins receive enough rest and\nfood before the start of a show, and would have enough time for breaks.&nbsp; Besides, it is suitable to let dolphins\ninteract with humans as dolphins are highly sociable animals.&nbsp; After the shows, they sometimes swim up to\nthe spectators and the spectators will touch their foreheads.&nbsp; From such close encounters, we can see that\nthey enjoy interacting with human beings, and do not treat their performance as\ntoilsome tasks.&nbsp; Then why is it necessary\nto ban dolphin shows especially when dolphins are not harmed in the process but\nin fact enjoy their work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, keeping dolphin shows around can\nactually save dolphins from destructive human activities, mainly water\npollution.&nbsp; Every year, at least 300, 000\ndolphins die because of oil spills and chemical pollution.&nbsp; Dolphins cannot grow healthily in polluted\nseas, as chemicals like polychlorinated biphenyls can disrupt their\nreproductive and immune systems.&nbsp; Eventually,\ntheir population will decrease and they will die.&nbsp; Ocean Park does not just provide entertainment\nfor us, but also provides a clear and spacious environment for dolphins to live\nin.&nbsp; Besides, there are vets who can\ntreat dolphins when they are ill, while the oceans cannot provide healthcare\nservices to them when they are sick and feeble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, the dolphin shows are an attraction of\nOcean Park.&nbsp; If the shows are cancelled,\none of the major attractions of the park will be lost, and business may be\naffected as well.&nbsp; The park will not\nattract as many visitors as before.&nbsp; Besides,\nwhat will become of the dolphin trainers?&nbsp;\nThey will certainly be jobless and have no other ways to make a living\nif the shows are banned.&nbsp; Their action\nwill not just negatively affect the park\u2019s reputation and economy, but also\nlead to unemployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To sum up, dolphin shows at Ocean Park should\nnot be banned as they provide a safe haven for dolphins and can entertain both\nhumans and dolphins themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yours faithfully<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sidney<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sidney Ngai<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<!-- wp:paragraph --><p>Dear Edito<\/p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><p>I am writing to show my opposition to thban on the dolphin shows at Ocean Park.<\/p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><p>First of all, dolphin shows are noinhumane.
