How are you? I had my first day of teaching last Friday. I can\u2019t wait to tell you about my day.<\/p>\n

When I first entered the classroom, I saw that all the students were out of their seats so I yelled at them to sit down. They ignored me as they thought I was just a \u201cteacher\u2019s pet\u201d, until the principal showed up behind me. The whole class immediately fell silent. The principal then introduced me to the class and went back to her office down the hall.<\/p>\n

In class, I noticed that students were chatting, sleeping, eating, texting etc. No one was paying attention. So I stopped teaching. The students kept on doing their things and didn\u2019t notice that until one girl raised her hand and asked me why I wasn\u2019t teaching. She also said a lot about how it was my job to teach. I knew that a lecture wouldn\u2019t work so I told them, \u201cWhat I was just teaching would be in the exam. What I am going to teach in the next 20 minutes will be too.\u201d They started paying attention right away. I think I\u2019ll need to find another way to make them pay attention to my teaching. Should I let them take a 5-minute break? Why don\u2019t you give me some suggestions?<\/p>\n
