You are the winner of a talent contest and your singing career is taking off.\u00a0 The organisers of the talent contest have asked you to write an article about yourself for their website.<\/em><\/p>\n My name is Amy Chan and I am the winner of this year\u2019s Hong Kong\u2019s Got Talent. I would like to share my past, present, and possible future with all of you in this article.<\/p>\n I started playing the piano when I was twelve, which was three years ago. It was a very late start. The thing that actually brought me to music was my anxiety disorder, which was diagnosed when I was eight years old. There was no particular cause for it, and according to the doctor, it was hereditary. I suffered from serious panic attacks that made me feel as if I was going to die within ten seconds. Whenever I had my \u2018fits\u2019, as my mother called them, I would not be able to control my fear. One second I would be totally fine, and the next second my heart would be racing and I would feel terrified.\u00a0 When I was twelve years old, the illness hit me the hardest, and for months, I was bed-ridden. I felt like I didn\u2019t deserve to live, and despite my parents trying everything they could think of, my situation did not improve, until one day, I heard a sweet melody from outside. The music revived me, and for the first time in months, I was able to leave my bed. I went to the window to search for the source of the music, and it was my neighbor, who had recently moved in, playing the piano. So I started learning the piano, and soon, I started singing as well. Music saved me, and I love it.<\/p>\n I have never really thought of joining a talent contest.\u00a0 All thanks to my mom that I am here today, writing this article as the winner of the contest. My mom had always encouraged me to show my talent in places outside my bedroom, but I had never been able to muster up enough courage to sing in front of people. I was actually tricked into auditioning. One day, my mom came up with a lame and frankly, quite ridiculous excuse, saying that she wanted to audition for the contest, and asked me to accompany her. I went, rolling my eyes the whole time, and at the registration counter, when the staff asked for her name, she said my name instead! I was so shocked, and obviously unprepared. To be honest, I was furious at her. My mom told me to sing my favorite song, and I did as I was told. Surprisingly, the adjudicators loved it.<\/p>\n People have started recognizing me on streets, and it can be quite embarrassing. Once, I was at a cake shop, devouring my favorite chocolate cake, when someone came up to me and asked for a photo. I looked up, with half a cake stuffed in my mouth, and chocolate smeared on the sides of my lips, making them look twice as huge as they were. I have become more confident in my abilities. I transformed from a girl who would shy away from cameras and faint in front of a crowd into someone who could perform in front of a large audience. I have also become busier now, which is a good chance for a lazy bone like me to change.<\/p>\n I hope to continue my career and become a full-time singer once I graduate. I want to perform in front of people who don\u2019t know music and spread the bits and pieces I know to them.
