{"id":495,"date":"2010-09-06T16:02:15","date_gmt":"2010-09-06T16:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web02.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters2\/archives\/495"},"modified":"2015-05-24T06:52:53","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T06:52:53","slug":"the-goose-that-laid-the-golden-egg-a-modern-fable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelss.edu.hk\/buddingwriters\/archives\/495","title":{"rendered":"The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg \u2013 A Modern Fable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Everyone should have heard about &lsquo;The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg&rsquo; which was written by Aesop.&nbsp; The story was mainly about a couple who killed a goose which could lay a golden egg a day because they wanted to get rich much faster.&nbsp; They thought there were lots of golden eggs in the goose.&nbsp; Unfortunately, there weren&rsquo;t any.&nbsp; They had no more golden eggs.&nbsp; This story taught us an important lesson &ndash; too much greed results in nothing.<br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; My brother Louis loved this story.&nbsp; He thought being greedy was the worst thing in the world.&nbsp; Indeed, he wasn&rsquo;t greedy at all.&nbsp; As Louis was a loud mouth, he got quite a number of enemies at school.&nbsp; But if you really knew him well, you would find that he was actually a good person.<br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Last month, when Louis and I were walking back home as usual, we met a puppy which was wandering at the street sadly.&nbsp; The puppy was abandoned by its master.&nbsp; The puppy yelled poorly, &lsquo;Woof&hellip; Woof&hellip;&rsquo;&nbsp; My kind brother picked it up and took it back home secretly.&nbsp; He washed the puppy as thoroughly as he could before our parents came back.&nbsp; He put the puppy in a box with a big hole and bought some food for it.<br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The next morning, when my brother woke up, he saw a golden necklace in the box of the puppy.&nbsp; At first, he felt strange.&nbsp; Then, he thought of the story &lsquo;The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg&rsquo; and realized that was actually a gift from God for his kind heart of rescuing the puppy.&nbsp; Louis was excited and full of happiness.&nbsp; As I said, my brother was a loudmouth, and he told everyone he knew about the puppy (except our parents).&nbsp; Everyone at school knew about that.<br \/>&nbsp;A week later, when we got home from school, we found the puppy and the box had gone!&nbsp; Louis ran to the street and looked round and round but he couldn&rsquo;t find the puppy.&nbsp; He was frustrated.&nbsp; He locked himself in his bedroom for a day.&nbsp; He didn&rsquo;t talk with me for a week!&nbsp; I knew he was really unhappy.<br \/>&nbsp;Yesterday, mother told us a piece of news.&nbsp; Mrs. Wong, our neighbor, had lost all of her accessories, so had Mrs. Chan.&nbsp; They reported to the police.&nbsp; The accessories were finally found in Louis&rsquo;s classmate, Billy&rsquo;s home.&nbsp; They were in a box which contained a puppy.&nbsp; Billy was arrested right now, probably going to stay in prison for a year or even more.&nbsp; Louis and I knew what had happened &ndash; Well, Billy was one of Louis&rsquo;s enemies.&nbsp; He hated Louis because he kept talking and talking.&nbsp; What we guessed was that he stole the puppy from Louis hoping the puppy would make him rich.&nbsp; Unfortunately, the puppy brought him bad luck.&nbsp; It went out every night and stole accessories from ladies.&nbsp; And now, poor Billy had to be in prison.&nbsp; I had to say that this really served him right.&nbsp; Like what the fable taught, too much greed really results in nothing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Everyone should have heard about &lsquo;The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg&rsquo; which was written by Aesop.
