Are you a potential game designer?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think a game designer has been one of those mythical jobs that people are dying to fill for, but it\u2019s not as easy as people think,\u201d says Gemma Lai, a leading game designer of \u201cPortal\u201d.\u00a0 She points out that a game designer must have creative, imaginative, unique ideas.\u00a0 Strong storytelling ability is also required.\u00a0 Apart from having excellent communication and presentation skills, you also need to be able to work alone or work in a team.\u00a0 The last important thing is the skills of problem solving.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is really vital that you have the problem solving skills.\u00a0 Sometimes you just have to make sure the game you create does not have any bugs.\u00a0 Or else, gamers would be confused and would not support the games anymore.\u00a0 \u201cThey are our motivation to create better games.\u00a0 We would try our best to give our customers the most unforgettable gameplay.\u201d Lai stresses.<\/span><\/p>\n

A piece of cake?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

You may think game designers are easy jobs, just sitting all day and writing down the game you want to create, and then passing it to programmers and letting them do the rest.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s not like that.\u201d Lai explains. \u201cTo design a game, you have to set the rules of the game.\u00a0 Make sure they\u2019re all reasonable and not ridiculous.\u00a0 Then create the setting such as background, characters, weapons, vehicles and so on.\u00a0 The next thing to be set up is the story and how it develops.\u00a0 The last thing is how the players play the game.\u00a0 In other words, it is how we can let the players enjoy the game most.\u00a0 Sounds complicated, right?\u00a0 But there\u2019s more!\u00a0 As a game designer, you have to cooperate with your working team.\u00a0 You have to make sure the team members, like programmers, artists, animators and producers work until the very end of the game development.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Does being a game designer still sound comfortable to you? \u00a0Probably not.\u00a0 Lai also adds that once the game is developed, you need to train testers to play the game in order to make sure the game works in the way it is meant to be. \u00a0They would try to find as many bugs as possible and fix them again and again. \u00a0It is a time-consuming, tough procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n

But there is always a bright side. \u00a0A leading game designer earns up to $550000 per year.\u00a0 You can also play games whenever you want! \u00a0(Just to find if there\u2019re any bugs to fix.)<\/span><\/p>\n
