When I was small, <\/span>I always thought of Aladdin Genie. If he granted me three wishes, I would demand more toys, eminence and beauty. Yesterday, I thought of my wishes again. I wanted only two things<\/span>\u2014<\/span>to become a mind-reader and the ability to foretell the future. I even laughed at my absurdity at that time! However, it\u2019s really astounding that my wishes come true today.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This morning my phone rang. \u2018Morning! This is Eleanor,\u2019 my best friend woke me up with her high-pitched voice as usual. But before she continued, I already knew what she wanted to say. That was not because of my thorough understanding of my friend but m<\/span>y<\/span> mind-reading ability. I heard her voice and thinking echoing in my brain. I was astonished and I even found myself having difficulty uttering a word!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Hello? Sophie? Are you still here?\u2019 Eleanor asked perplexedly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Eleanor, I think something unusual has happened to me. I\u2019ll tell you later, \u2018I gaped in bewilderment after putting my phone back. I was still wondering why I could possess this special power.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Miss Owens, come to see me, please,\u2019 Mr. Collins, the superintendent shouted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I strode into his room immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018This,\u2019 he threw the report I handed in to him yesterday into the rubbish bin, \u2018this is rubbish! No concrete proposals, but many spelling mistakes. What happened to you, Miss Owens?\u2019 The grumpy and detestable superintendent raged against me, as if a clap of hunder growling right in front of me.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I was going back to my seat, someone tapped on my shoulder. It was Charlotte, a benign and benevolent colleague. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Don\u2019t look crestfallen. Mr. Collins is so haughty but don\u2019t let him belittle you. Do your best, Sophie,\u2019 she was really good at consoling others. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At that moment, my mind-reading ability told me the truth<\/span>\u2015<\/span>Charlotte was lying. \u2018Finally, she has done something wrong. I want the eccentric to be laid off so desperately,\u2019 Charlotte\u2019s thought was revealed. How nauseous and sinister she was! I continued listening to her thought, and I was very disappointed that she was a crafty person! \u2018When Sophie is fired, I will be the most suitable person to take over her position,\u2019 Charlotte\u2019s thought was reverberating in my mind. Thanks to my special power, I can now distinguish between the hypocritical ones and those who have a heart of gold.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the evening, I found myself possessing another special power<\/span>\u2015<\/span>foreseeing others\u2019 future. As I mind-read that Tracy, my enemy, had an important date after work, I had to forewarn her. A vision of Tracy being late for the appointment flashed in my mind, like a meteor streaking across the sky.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Tracy, I heard that Raphael has a date with you tonight. You\u2019d better go now or you\u2019ll be late,\u2019 I advised her with my apparent nonchalance. My sworn enemy gave me an expression of shock and utter incredulity, and replied stiltedly, \u2018Thanks<\/span>.\u2019<\/span> Though she was my bitter enemy, I would feel guilty if I didn\u2019t forewarn her. Still, this special power could be ghastly<\/span>\u2014<\/span>I sometimes had a premonition that somebody was in agony, which really made me feel distraught.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
